General Summary:

Providing the highest level of personalized service, the Host/Hostess will display superior hospitality and enthusiasm to our Members and guests. Genuine interaction with the Members and their guests will set Des Moines Golf and Country Club apart from our competition. The Host/Hostess is in charge of making the best first impression to our Members and guests.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Realize that Service is our #1 product at GOCC and upholding a standard of excellence in this area is your #1 priority.
2. To be effective, organization is key and includes keeping the stand clean, organized, and ready for operation at all times.
3. Have a comprehensive knowledge of the service routine.
4. Greets Members and Guests with a smile in a friendly and professional manner, escorts them to their table, pull seat out for ladies and present menus as needed.
5. Address Member with their last name when possible. Continue to learn and work on face/name recognition.
6. Suggest and describe various appetizers, entrees, desserts, alcoholic beverages and wine to Members and Guests.
7. Alert server that Members and/or Guests have been seated in their section. Keep a balance of tables seated to each server to keep a fair count for all.
8. Maintain a high level of visibility throughout the shift to assist Members and Guests with any questions, concerns or requests as needed.
9. Thorough knowledge of the phone system to be able to professionally answer the phone, take Togo orders and delivery orders, place calls on hold and transfer calls when needed.
10. Strong and up to date knowledge of the menu and the ability to accurately enter orders.
11. Coordinates food service involving communication between Kitchen and Service Staff.
12. Complete opening, mid-shift and closing duties as they pertain to your scheduled shift to maintain a smooth-running operation.
13. Check with Manager/Receptionist to assure there are no large or private parties or other information you do not know of by 4pm, this will help you plan out the seating chart and organize the reservation list. Planning ahead will result in an effective host stand.
14. Monitor table lighting, dining room shading and music levels, adjust as needed.
15. Stock server stations, set/reset tables with silverware, glassware and clean linens as needed.
16. Address Members and Guests as they leave to see how their experience was. Communicate with Clubhouse Manager and Assistant Clubhouse Managers all Member dining experiences to help promote the best possible service throughout the Clubhouse.
17. Maintain and clean service-related equipment.
18. Promotes high morale and enthusiasm among staff by providing a positive and team-oriented mentality both on and off the floor.
19. Provides a high level of cooperation and communication with all allied Departments of the Club.
20. Performs other duties as assigned from time to time.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Experience preferred with strong communication and guest relations skills.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to stand long periods of time on their feet and walking various distances. Need to always look professional. Hair should be neat and clean and men should be clean-shaven daily. Must be able to deal with in a respectable manner but not limited to, stressful situations while ultimately correcting the problem. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities.
