Derris is seeking interns who are smart, motivated and self-starters to join the team for the Spring 2024 semester. Working across a variety of accounts, you will have the opportunity to work with diverse teams and learn from some of the best in the industry.

Derris is looking for interns who are smart, motivated and self-starters. The firm focuses on public relations and strategic communications, with an eye toward holistic brand storytelling and marketing. Interns have the opportunity to work closely with a number of Derris team members to build a strong skill set, while also having access to all capabilities at Derris. We want our interns to have the best experience possible, and therefore invite them to listen in on client calls, observe important meetings and attend office events.

Alongside our core PR business, we've also launched the below divisions, where interns may also be staffed:

Content Creative: Our Content Creative Division works in tandem with our PR teams to scale clients’ narrative visually and verbally across all consumer touchpoints. An overview of services include visual brand identity, voice development, copywriting and leading strategy and content development for social media & content marketing. 

Influencer Marketing: This division engages influencers and creators who are passionate about entertainment, culture, food, travel or other interests and can help reach target audiences. We believe in fully integrated marketing that incorporates authentic influencer engagement from the beginning as a part of a larger strategic marketing plan.

In-Person: In-Person was developed with the fundamental belief that the next stage of retail evolution will be driven by experiences that combine commerce and hospitality. The In-Person team works hand-in-hand with clients to develop physical concepts and event programming that elevate a brand's mission and product in an exciting and engaging way, with a focus on building temporary and permanent retail, retail strategy, customer experience and design, construction and retail placement and one-of-a-kind multi day experiences.

Role duration: Our Spring 2024 Internship Program runs from February 6 to May 9.

Role hours: Interns must be able to work a maximum of 21 hours/week (3x/week), on a roughly 9 a.m.-to-5 p.m. Eastern Time schedule. Please do not apply if you cannot meet this requirement.

Note:Ideally, our interns can work Tuesday through Thursday, but we can accommodate alternative schedules.

Role location: This role is based in our New York, N.Y. office on a hybrid basis, in office approximately 2-3 daysper week.

Responsibilities

As an intern, you will…

  • Manage, track and update the day-to-day client tasks within your respective teams
  • Organize media and information in the form of magazines, newspapers and more 
  • Build, update and organize media lists for pitching, assisting in research and audits
  • Clip and archive articles in print, online and broadcast formats 
  • Support media monitoring by following coverage of specific topics and trends and monitoring for client mentions and competitor news 
  • Assist teams in preparation for new business meetings, existing client strategy and weekly meetings, photoshoots, interviews, events, etc. 
  • Attend company brainstorms 
  • Join client calls and meetings to listen in, take notes, assist with agendas and recaps 
  • Support the creation of written materials (i.e. briefing documents, pitches, press releases, fact sheets, reports, etc.)
  • Organize and maintain relevant team files such as reports, contracts, project estimates and competitive activity
  • Participate in an internship project alongside fellow interns and with guidance from Derris staff

Qualifications:

  • Must be a rising college senior (or junior), postgraduate student or non-student
  • Current enrollment in a Communications, Marketing or related educational field 
  • Self-motivation, good organizational skills, detail-orientation, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong writing abilities with the capability to write clear, public-facing materials, including blogs to tweets to research memos, quickly
  • Able to work with a team to meet group objectives
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with the press and community contacts
  • Passion for the PR industry and its best practices 
  • Excellent computer skills including Google Suite products, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
