POSITION: FloatingMOHS Medical Assistant (Mohs and General Dermatology)

LOCATION: Chelmsford/ Arlington/ Natick

Job Summary:

The medical/surgical assistant provides patient care support along with the physician in both our general dermatology and Mohs surgical practice. Assistants require excellent sterile technique, attention to detail and the ability to work at a fast pace. You need to possess excellent computer, communication and customer service skills. You must possess the ability to work in a team environment with a caring and confident manner. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job responsibility.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Possesses wide-ranging knowledge of skin care treatment and pathology.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to record and report properly in the patient records all
    pertinent information (EPIC).
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of dermatology and skin care treatment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Well-organized, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Treats patients and co-workers with respect.
  • Empathetic with patients needs and concerns.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical

  • Assists surgeon during surgery, excisions, biopsies
  • Assists the general dermatologist in an array of general dermatology problems
  • Placing patients in rooms, taking histories, going in with physicians and assisting with biopsies, surgeries and general dermatology tasks, cleaning rooms for the next patient, cleaning instruments.
  • Consults (both phone and office)
  • Entering data in EPIC quickly and accurately
  • Recording/Logging patient biopsies, excision and relevant path reports
  • Calling patients post-operatively
  • Vital Signs
  • Cleaning, sterilizing appropriate packs for surgery
  • Cleaning exam rooms
  • Stocking rooms
  • Specimen collection and preparation for laboratory
  • Maintenance of instruments, repair and sharpening with vendor
  • Preparing buffered lidocaine and other injectables as needed
  • Accessing pathology reports and logging them properly into the log.
  • Data entry of all prescriptions, doctors and other pertinent information into LMR in a timely manner
  • Assisting other staff as needed depending on various needs of the office/physicians
  • Providing necessary coverage for other staff that would include leadership activities to ensure high operational standards.

    Administrative when directed by Supervisor
  • Monitor physician schedules ahead of time to avoid scheduling issues
  • Ordering of medical supplies if necessary
  • Returns all calls received by the end of that same working day.
  • Occasional scheduling of patients
  • General administrative projects as directed by Physicians and Administrator
