Dermatology Associates of Texas (Houston Skin Associates) is Hiring a MOHS Dermatology Medical Assistant Near Webster, TX

The primary concern of the MA is exceptional patient care. We have several openings for experienced, energetic and hardworking Medical Assistants that will work with a provider and travel between three medical offices located in the Houston, Texas area; approximately within a 30-mile radius. Please submit salary requirements with your resume. Candidates with Dermatology experience and Spanish speaking skills will be given priority.

The job duties listed are descriptive and characteristic of the duties required, and the level of the work performed in the job title. The following responsibilities will generally be allocated to the Back Office Medical Assistant; however, responsibilities are not limited to the listing only. Additional duties can be assigned at the discretion of the supervisor.

We are looking for all levels of MA's (including Lead MA) for multiple positions at our Houston (Museum District), Pearland and Webster, Texas offices.

Reports to the Clinic Manager/Lead MA. Takes direction from Physicians, Clinic Managers, and Supervisors.

Essential Skills and Abilities:

  • Medical Assistant experience required.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish highly preferred.
  • MOHS experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good understanding of skin anatomy.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work as a team member.
  • Well-organized with attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Empathetic with patient needs and concerns.
  • Ability to work well with physicians, anticipating their needs regarding patient treatment.
  • Experience with EMA is highly desired, but not required.

Responsibilities:
Primary Duties

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms in order of appointment times. Obtains short history and vital signs as required by patient’s chief complaint. Obtains or updates medication list when/if necessary. Sets up exam room according to scheduled procedure or anticipate physicians needs if non-scheduled procedure is likely.
  • Assists physician with biopsies and surgical procedures such as excisions, ED&C, cryotherapy, laser surgery, etc.
  • Educates patient as required after physician establishes the treatment plan. Ensures that the patient understands the treatment plan, understands the proper use of their medications, and understands their responsibility for compliance with the treatment plan prior to leaving the office.
  • Straightens/cleans exam rooms after patient visits.
  • Performs nursing procedures such as suture removal, dressing changes, and chemical wart therapy, without direct physician supervision.
  • Completely and correctly fills out all required pathology and laboratory requisition documents for patients as required by physician. Provides clinical staff with all completed documents for data entry into the biopsy book.
  • Obtaining consent forms for surgical procedures and ABN.

Secondary Duties

  • Stocks all exam rooms.
  • Performs all duties related to medical instrument cleaning and sterilization.
  • Notifies supervisor of supplies needed to avoid shortages monthly.
  • Performs other duties and tasks as needed.
  • Helps with triage calls regarding prescription questions, surgical questions, etc. when needed.
  • Logs all surgical specimens submitted to pathology in the biopsy book. Logs final diagnosis upon receipt of consultation report (or when slides are read by physician) in the biopsy book.
  • Organizes medication samples according to drug categories and pulls outdated medications from sample room.
  • Performs all duties and maintains documentation for appropriate biohazard material management.

Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday. Occasionally, Saturday’s may be required.

Salary: $20 - $26/hourly, based on experience.
