DePelchin Children's Center is Hiring a Mental Health Counselor, QMHP Near Houston, TX

Position Title: Mental Health Counselor II, QMHP

Role: Mental Health Counselor

Classification: Full-time, Exempt

Reports to: Clinical Supervisor

Location:  Houston, TX

Position Description:

The Mental Health Counselor QMHP will provide a range of social work and therapeutic activities to children ages 3-17, and their families in the Houston area. The Mental Health Counselor will utilize a short-term, strengths-based approach to help families resolve presenting concerns. This position is designed to provide and connect clients with a range of services geared toward engaging, supporting, and coaching parents, children and youth. 

Required :

  • Master’s degree in social work or related human services field.
  • Fully licensed as an LMSW; or
  • Provisionally licensed as an LMFT-Associate or LPC-Associate; or
  • Passed licensure examination to obtain LMSW, LMFT-Associate, or LPC Associate.
  • Employment is contingent upon obtaining full/provisional licensure within 90 days of hire.

Experienced/Skills Preferred:

  • Entry level acceptable with one year's experience.
  • Experience in case management, crisis intervention, or child welfare.

Trainings required as a condition of employment once hired:

  • QMHP training (Social Skills and Aggression Replacement Techniques (START); Seeking Safety; Preparing Young Adolescents for Adulthood (PAYA); Nurturing Parenting Program; Barkley’s Defiant Child/Defiant Teen; Wraparound Planning Process
  • Illness Management and Recover; Assertive Community Treatment; Individual Placement and Supports; Permanent Supportive Housing; ANSA assessment
  • Child & Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS) assessment
  • Staff Member Competencies per the Texas administrative Code
  • Evidenced Based & Trauma Informed Interventions (TF-CBT)
  • CANS and CPR

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret data, information and documents.
  • Ability to analyze and solve non-routine problems.
  • Ability to observe and interpret situations as well as learn and apply new information or skills.
  • Ability to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks.
  • Ability to interact with staff, clients, the public and others encountered in the course of work.

Work Conditions:

  • Environment: Home-based Office, Client homes, Community Settings
  • Range of Schedule: M – F, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm, Occasional nights or weekends

Travel:

  • Frequent, Local. Must have reliable transportation and valid Texas driver license.
