The Office of Statistics and Evaluation (OSE) within the Bureau of Community Health and Prevention (BCHAP) seeks to hire an Epidemiologist to primarily support the Cancer Initiatives Unit within the Division of Community-Based Prevention and Care (DCBPC). The Cancer Epidemiologist will serve as the lead epidemiologist/evaluator to oversee cancer surveillance, and implement multi-year, multi-site evaluation frameworks to capture progress and success for the 3 cancer programs within the Cancer Initiatives Unit.
The selected candidate will work closely with the Clinical-Community Linkage Innovation Epidemiologist III, Cancer Initiatives manager, and program staff, be responsible for planning and executing grant writing and evaluation efforts, such as setting evaluation priorities for federally funded programs, grant applications, program and policy evaluation plans, data interpretation, and developing data visualization and dissemination products for diverse audiences.
The selected candidate will also be responsible for analyzing key surveillance and survey/clinical datasets (including BRFSS, YRBS, YHS, claims datasets, etc) to generate accurate and relevant data and evidence that inform programmatic decision-making.
The epidemiologist will also apply a structural analysis of systemic and historical racism and resulting inequities to their work, in alignment with the principles and practices of the BCHAP Racial Equity Movement. This includes understanding the root causes of health inequities in cancer, particularly the role of structural racism and other systemic drivers of cancer, and incorporating a racial equity lens in data collection, analyses, evaluation, and dissemination materials.
