For over 130 years, our Counselors have contributed to the life-changing work of Denver Rescue Mission. We invite you to join the Mission in the frontline fight to address homelessness in Denver. The Counselor is an integral member of the Mission's team as it leads the participants through rehabilitation.
The Counselor is a full-time, exempt position of Denver Rescue Mission (DRM). The Counselor reports to the Associate Director of Residential Programs of Harvest Farm.

Hiring Range: $55,000.00-$62,500.00 annually based on qualifications and experience

RESPONSIBILITIES General Duties
  • The employee is required to know and adhere to all policies and procedures of the Mission and the Counseling Program at all program locations.
  • The employee must demonstrate the ability to work as a team-member with the Case Manager, Education Coordinator, Work Therapy and Chaplaincy departments.
  • Uphold the policies and procedures of the New Life Program as stated in the Harvest Farm Handbook and based on historical precedent.
  • The employee must know and practice professional boundaries and confidentiality, as described in this Policy Manual.
  • Provide spiritual guidance as appropriate within the context of the therapeutic relationship.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Specific Duties Provide thorough and consistent evidenced-based counseling for residents in the New Life Program by:
  • Providing mental health evaluations for: Mental illnesses and at-risk behaviors, which include SPMI, suicidal ideation and violent behaviors.
  • Providing one-on-one evidenced-based counseling services for program participants.
  • Possessing a basic understanding of addictive behavior (psychologically, spiritually, and emotionally) and related social issues.
  • Developing, maintaining, facilitating, and supporting the structural format and goals of group therapy as conducted by self, staff members and interns of the counseling department.
  • Leading weekly Devotions, groups and psychoeducation or life skills classes as assigned.
  • Conducting a thorough bio/psych/social and spiritual evaluation within the established guidelines through interviewing, record review and other appropriate methods.
  • Recommending the necessary level of intervention by evaluating participant data.
  • Developing and regularly modify treatment/service plans for participants with the care team and implement them as directed.
  • Monitoring and assessing participant progress towards identified goals.
  • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date case notes; document participant meetings and progress to ensure program compliance and adherence to best practice standards.
Help shape, maintain, and coordinate the counseling curriculum as directed with the Clinical Director and staff education by:
  • Educating staff and interns on topics pertaining to mental health issues such as crisis management, confidentiality, understanding mental illness, growth and change dynamics and the possible limits and benefits of psychotropic medications.
  • Screening, evaluating and ongoing Licensed Professional supervision of graduate level counseling interns, with the aid of the Clinical Director or appropriately credentialed supervisor to discuss clinical, ethical, and educational needs of the interns.
Maintain efficient communication.
  • Submit weekly status and counseling hours. Meet weekly with supervisor to discuss matters relevant to developing, improving, or maintaining the counseling department; specific participant needs or circumstances; and the New Life Program.
  • Participate in participant Care Team meetings and Weekly Staff Meetings. Complete and submit evaluations of counseling caseload.
  • Maintain participant counseling therapy notes and department statistical information.

Requirements

  • Affirm the Statement of Faith
  • Abide by the Employee Handbook
  • Possession of at least an M.A. in counseling or comparable degree in a related field. Preferable: LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LAC or CAC
  • Previous related experience.
  • Must be a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ as expressed by a personal testimony and Christian conduct. Must adhere to the agency Statement of Faith and possess a heart for ministry to all who need help.
NOTE: A minimal amount of work-related travel might be required
