COORDINATOR, ACADEMIC PROGRAM (JOB ID: 65969)

Salary Range: $50,470 - $60,564

Essential Functions and Objectives:
Responsible for developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating intensive efforts to prepare students in special education for careers in demand-driven industries.
  • Develops a sequential and intensive career exploration and preparation program that readies students for careers within the hospitality/tourism, health care, and transportation industries and creates and/or coordinates a broad range of career exploration and preparation activities for students with identified disabilities, incorporating existing curriculum and activities.
  • Works closely with teachers, support staff, students, families, and community agencies to implement the program.
  • Develops internship and employment opportunities with large and small businesses, community agencies, and other entities and serves as a liaison with the Denver Division of Workforce Development for all aspects of the year-round paid internship program.
  • Coordinates the summer internship program; sets up recruitment and intake processes, provides job readiness training, develops internship sites, provides job coaching, and collects data and required paperwork for up to 60 students.
  • Incorporates job readiness training and evaluation of student performance into internship programs.
  • Creates structured transition processes to institutions of higher education, certification programs, and on-the-job training opportunities for students enrolled in the career path program.
  • Collects and analyzes program data to evaluate program outcomes and effectiveness and submits an annual report on program outcomes and achievements.
  • Researches funding opportunities for long-term sustainability.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:
  • Five (5) or more years of experience in program development and management as well as a strong understanding of youth with disabilities and workforce development practices.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office/Google products including Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Slides.
  • Effective time management, program planning, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effectively handles multiple demands and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to take responsibility for one’s own performance.
  • Proven ability to build collaborations with government and community agencies.
  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information.
  • Success developing internship sites and employment opportunities for youth with disabilities.
  • Strong public speaking skills; able to represent the program in a variety of arenas.

Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
