The Disease Intervention Specialist provides professional and technical services related to the treatment, control, education and prevention of HIV and STDs. This position will also collect specimens via blood draw and finger stick and provide pre- and post-test counseling/risk reduction to those who present for testing.
Conducts epidemiological investigations, which entails interviewing positive HIV/STD cases, partner elicitation/contact tracing, and ensuring clients receive adequate treatment.
Educates clients regarding prevention and protection against sexually transmitted diseases.
Completes case reports, epidemiologic report forms and other required reporting.
Provides referral services for clients who test positive for HIV.
Conducts field visits to identify, locate, and notify clients of their positive test results and ensures proper medical care is received.
Educates providers and laboratories on reportable STDs and proper STD treatment.
Provides HIV/STD testing in both traditional and non-traditional settings.
Orders of testing supplies and promotional items.
Regular and punctual attendance is required.
Performs other related duties as required.Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of two years of experience in a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
Possession of a valid Driver’s License. Must be able to obtain a State of Texas driver’s license within 90 days of employment.
