Delta Health is Hiring a Lab Section Supervisor - Microbiology (ASCP) Near Delta, CO

The Laboratory Section Supervisor provides administrative, technical and general supervision to staff members including Medical Technologists, Medical Laboratory Technicians and Phlebotomists. Ensures compliance with laboratory policies and procedures; evaluates and recommends technical methods based on clinical and cost parameters. Ensures that written and approved technical procedures are maintained for each determination performed.

  • The Laboratory Section Supervisor serves as a resource for technologists performing complex specimen processing and testing to assist physicians in the diagnosis of patients.
  • Responsible for the daily specimen testing/reporting activities and processes performed by Medical Technologists and Technicians.
  • Maintains policies and procedures, quality control, equipment maintenance and proficiency testing practices throughout areas of responsibility assigned by Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Manager.
  • Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Manager, ensures area(s) of responsibility are maintained in accreditation with the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Reviews CAP checklist to maintain section compliance and is a CAP inspector for other facilities.
  • Actively assists with education of the staff.
  • Ensures competency of staff in area of responsibility.

    Microbiology Section :

    • Supervises and performs testing on microbiology specimens including plating and reading of bacterial cultures, fungal cultures, micro serology testing, DNA amplification testing, and bacterial susceptibility testing.
    • Educating staff as to how to handle microbiology issues and calls.
    • Participate in departmental training and yearly competency programs.
    • Monitoring and responding to all client concerns including providing information to laboratory clients relative to sample collection and submission.
    • Maintaining standard operating procedures manuals for all QA functions as necessary.
    • Maintain various QA and QC records.
    • Deals with and helps maintain electrical equipment.
    • Understand and comply with proper handling, storage and labeling of hazardous waste per regulations.
    • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
    • National registration by ASCP/HEW as an MT or equivalent.
    • Four (4) years previous hospital experience preferred.
    • Must qualify as a general supervisor as defined by CLIA 88 regulations.

For tests not performed on-site, Delta Health uses the Mayo Medical Laboratory in Rochester, Minnesota, as our primary reference lab.
