Delta Health is Hiring a Facility Coder Near Delta, CO

The Facility Coder is responsible for accurately assigning the appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes to inpatient and outpatient facility services. Coder will utilize 3M coding and reimbursement system software, Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and the facilities Meditech Information System. It is also the responsibility of the Facility Coder to abide by standard protocols of the profession while using their own methods to compile the most accurate information.

Hybrid position with a set work schedule.

  • Evaluates medical record documentation to optimize reimbursement by ensuring that diagnostic and procedural codes and other documentation accurately reflects and supports facility visits and to ensure that data complies with legal standards and guidelines.
  • Interprets medical information such as diseases or symptoms and diagnostic descriptions and procedures to accurately assign and sequence the correct ICD-9-CM and CPT codes.
  • Input data related to coded information and other healthcare data into computer system.
  • Reviews state and federal Medicare reimbursement claims for completeness and accuracy before submission to minimize claim denial.
  • Evaluates medical records for completeness and accuracy, confirming all required data is entered and properly coded. Prepares reports on such topics as the number of denied claims or documentation or coding issues for review by Revenue Cycle Director.
  • Assists the billing department by providing accurate codes for patient treatments to streamline the reimbursement process.
  • Provides technical guidance to physicians and other staff in identifying and resolving issues or errors such as incomplete or missing records and documentation, ambiguous or nonspecific documentation, and/or codes that do not conform to approved coding principles/guidelines.
  • Keep up to date with changes in coding standards and participate in educational opportunities to improve job performance by reading bulletins, newsletters, and periodicals and attends workshops to stay abreast of issues, trends, and changes in laws and regulations governing medical record coding and documentation.
  • Maintain adherence to coding guidelines and regulations to maintain ethical standards and avoid legal consequences.
  • Follows departmental and organizational policies and procedures and Delta Health’s Code of Conduct.
  • Participates in the Revenue Cycle Strategic Plan.
  • Performs other functions as deemed necessary by the Facility Revenue Cycle Director according to work volume and demand.
  • Meets accuracy and productivity standards per revenue cycle criteria.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must have one of the following certification upon hire:
    • Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
    • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC)
    • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
    • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
    • Certified Professional Coder – Hospital Outpatient (CPC-H)
  • Minimum of two (2) years of medical coding experience preferred.
  • Prior work with Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • Experience in specialized fields like Cardiology, Labs, Emergency, Someday Surgery, Orthopedics, Radiology is a plus.
