Are you a seasoned data warehouse expert looking to make a change? You will be a significant contributor in the design, development and implementation of Delta Dental’s data warehouse and business intelligence environment. This is an opportunity to serve as a key technical resource within the data and reports team and as an advocate to both business and technical employees regarding data warehouse benefits and best practices, as applicable. 

Your primary responsibility will be to drive the continued maturity of the company’s warehouse environment through the design, implementation and ongoing enhancement of data warehouse constructs within a SQL server environment. Key to that effort is the analysis and definition of a flexible and robust data model which is neutral with respect to the choice of data analysis approach and toolset. Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities: 

• Drive the continued maturity of company’s warehouse environment through the design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of data warehouse constructs within a SQL server environment.
• Provide analysis and definition of a flexible and robust data model which is neutral with respect to the choice of data analysis approach and toolset.
• Lead large complex projects with limited direction.
• Work with stakeholders and users to define a robust dimensional model for a data warehouse which is accessible to a variety of front-end tools accessing it. 
• Document warehouse data models from both logical and physical perspectives.
• Implement those models through table creation and maintenance in SQL Server.
• Strong participation in defining and implementing corporate data strategy and data management standards/conventions. Includes the collection and maintenance of metadata.
• Facilitate communication between and understanding among stakeholders, business users, data warehouse developers, and report developers.
• Ensure data integrity and quality for the data within the organization.
• Gain a thorough understanding of multiple source systems and how those data elements are represented within the data warehouse.
• Identify software, tools, and techniques that have potential to advance the state of Business Intelligence across the company.
• Provide outstanding support to the business areas for data needs. This includes ad-hoc data requests/analysis, user support, etc.
• Responsible for ensuring upgrades are applied to environments.
• Responsible for ensuring backups occur and monitoring them.
• Lead database recovery efforts if failure was to occur.
• Ensure cycles are meeting SLAs and if not recommend and implement improvements.
• Provide on-call support when necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related technology field or equivalent experience.
2. 8 years of experience designing and building Data Warehouse structures, processing, and reports, implemented using one or more enterprise-grade database products (SQL Server, Oracle, etc.).
3. Advanced skills in logical and physical data modeling, database queries, stored procedures, and data mapping.
4. Deep knowledge and experience with data warehouse best practices at the enterprise level. Able to articulate the value of those practices to a technical or non-technical audience.
5. Proficient with ETL concepts and implementation.
6. Development in Business Intelligence software, including the construction of complex reports based on warehouse data.
7. Experience with any/all of the following would be a plus, but not essential: Data Quality and/or Master Data concepts and implementation; Business Objects Universe design and report development; Power BI endorsed datasets and report development; and/or Data Warehouse development in SSIS and SSRS.
8. Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
9. Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize responsibilities toward meeting established deadlines. All within a dynamic, project-oriented environment.
10. Ability to lead large complex projects with limited direction. 
11. Insurance industry experience is preferred.
