Heritage Elementary School Principal
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
The principal is responsible for the administration of the total school program and to provide leadership in the strategic planning of instructional programs that support teacher effectiveness and enhance student learning. The Principal will support the mission of the district while demonstrating school leadership. These responsibilities include establishing a climate conducive to learning, clarifying roles and expectations, long-range planning, and coordinating community involvement in the total school program.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Provide leadership in the planning, implementing and assessment of the school with a focus on increased student achievement, building a positive climate for learning, leveraging research and data-driven initiatives, and building a high performing faculty and leadership team to achieve the school’s vision, goals, and aspirations.
Performance Responsibilities
Communicate the school mission and foster a school culture that is focused on academic achievement for all students.
Establish, communicate, model your personal vision and the school vision
Articulate, advocate, and cultivate core values that define the school’s culture and stress
the imperative of child-centered education
Make decisions in the best of interest of students and in alignment with school plans
Build professional relationships while holding people accountable to high expectations
Work with diverse groups of students, staff and community.
Shape a culture that promotes, values and supports diversity
Work cooperatively with the staff in implementing a curriculum to address the needs of students in accordance with State and District standards
Provide leadership and support to the school administrative team in monitoring instructional practice and student achievement data.
Analyze assessment data to drive decision making regarding effective instruction and student progress.
Promote, support and monitor innovative instruction.
Ensure a safe, orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior and creates high morale among staff and students.
Lead a Multi-tiered System of Support for students
Observe, evaluate, and provide feedback to improve/enhance teacher performance/Complete formal DPAS II process
Supervise and monitor staff members’ accurate and timely completion of data collection and reporting requirements.
Provide coaching and professional development based on identified staff needs.
Engage in walkthrough observations and provide timely feedback to staff
Establish a culture supporting strategic planning within small learning communities of teachers.
Demonstrate leadership which consistently inspires excellence and encourages distributive leadership.
Recruit, hire, support, develop, and retain effective and other professional staff
Develop and sustain, in conjunction with the administrative office, a program of public relations to establish and maintain favorable relationships with the community, local groups, and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school goals.
Promote and support efforts for parental engagement
Be active in giving back to the community through service projects.
Develop and administer the school’s budget in collaboration with stakeholders
Develop school plans and organizational procedures for the health, safety, discipline, and conduct of students as established in District procedures.
Develop a master schedule that supports differentiated learning experiences, maximizes instructional time and resources, and is aligned to the instructional needs of students.
Perform other duties and tasks assigned by immediate supervisor.
Provide leadership that will ensure continuous improvement in measurable student performance and achievement
Develop a continuous school improvement plan aligned to district priorities and student needs
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in Education Leadership
- Minimum of 3 years Assistant Principal and/or Principal
- Minimum 5 years teaching experience
- Appropriate Delaware certification as Principal
- Demonstrated successful leadership experience within an organization
- Understanding of special education laws and regulations
- Strong knowledge and experience with the IEP process
