Delaware Nation Industries is Hiring a Data Scientist Near Arlington, VA

Overview

The Program Development, Coordination, and Support Directorate is responsible for the design, coordination, and management of OBO’s construction and renovation programs.

The Department of State (DOS), Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations, Directorate of Project Development, Coordination and Support, Office of Cost Management (OBO/PDCS/COST), requires cost estimating services to complete the task requirements stated below.

Responsibilities

  • The Data Scientist assists with Excel, SharePoint, Power Bi and other software applications and their integration into office operations to support more effective operations.
  • The ideal candidate is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of
  • They must have strong experience using a variety of data mining/data analysis methods and data tools, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms, and creating/running simulations.
  • The Data Scientist will work with both technology-focused and business-focused agile teams to plan and execute work that delivers value to the organization.
  • They should be adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of
  • They must have experience using a variety of data mining/analysis methods, using tools for running simulations and creating prototypes.
  • They must have a proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. The right candidate will have a passion for discovering hidden solutions and working with stakeholders to improve business

  • They must be able to understand the long rang goals of the bureau and ensure that current development can be incorporated into them.
  • In furtherance of these skills and responsibilities, the contractor performs tasks and assignments that include the following:
  • Work with stakeholders throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive business solutions.
  • Mine and analyze data from databases to drive optimization and improvement of business process.
  • Coordinate with different functional teams to gather data, conduct analysis, provide recommendations, and monitor outcomes.
  • Use cost estimating tools specifically Sage / Navigator / Cortex to generate representational solutions, trends, and forecasting costs.
  • Develop Excel models and algorithms to apply to data
  • Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering
  • Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze Sage model performance and data accuracy. And other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and seven (7) years of related experience
  • Knowledge of building construction, maintenance, and or disposition, as well as construction and cost estimating
  • Ability to effectively analyze and extract insights from structured and unstructured data and apply solutions.
  • Passion and curiosity for understanding business processes and systems for the associated team.
  • Ability to develop a general working knowledge of the technical domain to effectively support technical risks that may arise.
  • Ability to incorporate the long-range goals of the bureau into the resolution of more immediate tasks
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with and creating data
  • Experience querying databases
  • Experience analyzing data from 3rd party providers g. A/E contractors
  • A drive to learn and master new technologies and
  • Experience and capabilities in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and advanced use of Excel) and Data Analysis and Manipulation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Google Studio, R, Python, etc...
  • Knowledge and understanding of the mission, functions, and objectives of the Division, Office, Bureau, and Department and their interrelationships with one another to coordinate work efforts, ensure that work is performed successfully and in a cost-effective manner, and that work efforts are not duplicated.
