Position Summary Information
Job Description Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide instruction and curriculum development for the Stone Writing Center, specifically new formats for group and individual instruction.
Responsibilities include the following but are not limited to:
Provide one-on-one and small group writing tutorials to students from all disciplines
Expand and offer Stone Writing Center instructional services to all Del Mar College campuses
Assist with online tutorials for Stone Writing Center Online
Create and facilitate highly individualized and tailored workshops based on instructor input, students’ needs, and course curriculum
Explore ways to incorporate new technologies into instruction
Facilitate creative approaches to learning, implementing strategies to encourage innovative problem-solving which emphasize reflective and critical thinking
Utilize cutting-edge technologies to facilitate learning
Supervise, train, and evaluate instructional technology facilitators, instructional consultants, peer tutors, lab assistants, and student assistants
Assist with marketing the components and services of Stone Writing Center, utilizing digital, print, and social media to recruit students
Facilitate collaborations between other areas and departments
Create and facilitate instructional programming to benefit Del Mar College faculty and staff
Assist Del Mar College faculty members with incorporating technology and use of active learning spaces into course design
Assist with designing instructional programs to meet grant requirements
Assist with designing active learning spaces
Explore effective use and implementation of classroom design and configuration, instructional innovation, and instructional technology
Participate in professional development activities
Serve on Stone Writing Center committees
Perform other related instructional and administrative duties as assigned
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to assist with development of curriculum and instructional materials.
A high level of technological literacy and the ability to use computer software applications and collaborative learning mobile devices for academic purposes.
Ability to establish a productive learning relationship with
students in both a face-to-face setting and online environment.
Knowledge of current theories and methods of teaching and/or tutoring, plus an understanding of technology (including mobile devices) and its use in education.
Innovative and creative problem-solving skills.
Seamlessly manage multiple projects.
Ability to apply innovative and creative strategies and
solutions.
Excellent communication, human relations and supervisory
skills.
Strong command of written language including grammar and formal composition.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in English, Instructional Design, Adult
Education, or related field.
Three (3) years of high school or college level teaching and/or
tutoring experience in writing
Experience with online instruction utilizing a learning management system
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in English, Instructional Design, Adult
Education, or related field.
Experience using technology to enhance instruction.
Experience using social media in instructional settings.
