MAJOR DUTIES:
Serves as a Medical Officer (Orthopedic Surgery) within the Department of Surgery, Evans Army Community Hospital (EACH). The employee is expected to perform independently and to have consultative responsibility of a high level of professional competence. The individual must be Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and have authoritative intensive knowledge in the area of orthopedic surgery.
1. The employee is responsible for maintenance of the highest standards of professional care in the outpatient and inpatient management of orthopedic patients served by the facility. Managing extremely difficult outpatient, inpatient and operative orthopedic cases and make expert recommendations to the Chief of Orthopedics, EACH, regarding definitive management of these cases. Provides immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur to individuals presented for care. Provide professional advice to medical staff upon request, in emergency situations, with regard to professional management of patients being treated.
2. The education of medical students and training of interns, residents, technicians, physicians, physician assistants, and therapists. The incumbent is required to participate in care conferences, team conferences, professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities to the extent that such attendance and participation is related to the assigned cases and/or performance of services. Actively participates in conducting peer review of other health care providers? medical records in compliance with the Quality Improvement/Assurance Program.
3. Responsible for all administrative activities normally associated with patient care in a hospital setting. Maintains required continued medical education (CME) through conferences, reading programs or other approved CME events. Obtains any necessary licenses and permits, and for complying with any applicable Federal and State Laws, codes, and regulations in connection with the performance of the type of services required.

Board Certified/Eligible
Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicants graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).
Candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
