Deep South Center for Environmental Justice is Hiring a Grants Project Coordinator Near Orleans, LA

The Grants Project Coordinator will dedicate 50% of their efforts to the CIRC division of DSCEJ. Reporting to the Grants Senior Program Manager, this individual will work with another full-time Grants Project Coordinator to coordinate the implementation of three major areas of work involving grant training activities within CIRC: (1) Grant Readiness Training; (2) Grant Writing Training; and (3) the provision of individualized Technical Assistance as it relates to preparing Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) for and assisting them with writing and submitting competitive grant applications in addition to some administrative duties.

The remaining 50% of this individual’s efforts will be in support of the DSCEJ Development and Grants Management division. Reporting to the Director of Development and Grants Management, this individual will assist the Director and the Grants & Special Projects Manager in the performance of their duties.

The Deep South Center for Environmental Justice (DSCEJ) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families harmed by pollution and vulnerable to climate change through research, education, community and student engagement for policy change, as well as health and safety training for environmental careers.

About CIRC

Drawing on more than 30 years of advancing environmental justice through its Communiversity Model and recent Accelerating Justice40 project, DSCEJ has launched a Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center (TCTAC) to build the capacity of organizations and communities in EPA Regions 4 & 6 to secure federal infrastructure funding. Over the course of five years, the Community Investment Recovery Center (CIRC) will engage 250 organizations and tribal communities to apply for federal grants, totaling $50-100 million.

Duties & Responsibilities (50% CIRC-related responsibilities; 50% DSCEJ-related responsibilities)

Grant Readiness Training (CIRC)

  • Assist the Senior Program Manager for Grant Training and Support (SPM) in the development of a comprehensive training schedule for this body of work
  • Assist the SPM in the conduct of virtual and in-person training workshops that focus on gaining and maintaining access to grant opportunities by the EPA, DOE, and other sources, as well as account registration and updates using SAM, Grants.gov, etc. (must be present during training.)
  • Ensure that descriptions of activities for this body of work are available for reporting.

Grant Writing Training (CIRC)

  • Assist the SPM in the development of a comprehensive training schedule for this body of work
  • Assist the SPM in the conduct of virtual and in-person training workshops that focus on how to find appropriate grant opportunities, understanding the request for proposals, preparing to write and complete a grant application, submitting a competitive application and managing an awarded grant.
  • Ensure that descriptions of activities for this body of work are available for reporting.

Individualized Technical Assistance (CIRC)

  • Work collaboratively with Regions 4 and 6 Navigators to ensure that individualized technical assistance is delivered by staff and consultants through office hours and in-person meetings according to schedule and in a timely manner to meet the needs of the CBO.
  • Ensure that descriptions of activities for this body of work are available for reporting.

Administrative (CIRC)

  • Assist the SPM in preparing progress reports and ensuring compliance with grant regulations and deliverables.
  • Gather data and descriptions for use in progress reporting.
  • Capture and/or gather video/photographic evidence of activities for use in reporting when necessary.
  • Keep up-to-date funding opportunities available to orgs in the CIRC library.

Development & Grants Management (DSCEJ)

  • Enter data into grant management databases, spreadsheets etc.
  • Disseminate information pertaining to development and grants to DSCEJ staff and consultants.
  • Conduct follow-up calls with DSCEJ staff during the grant writing process.
  • Schedule and take dictation during meetings initiated by the Director of Development & Grants Management and the Grants & Special Projects Manager (GSPM).
  • Assist in the preparation of meeting agendas.
  • Prepare grant opportunity packets for review by the Director of Development & Grant Management.
  • Gather data and descriptions for use in grant writing under the direction of the Grants & Special Projects Manager.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Professional experience as a Project/Program Coordinator, or similar role.
  • Skills and knowledge relating to grant seeking, grant management, grant writing, research, editing, and budgets in a non-profit environment.
  • Experience following internal processes and using tools to manage projects, coordinate and schedule training, and collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Hands-on experience with coordinating within government-funded projects.
  • Functional understanding of virtual training platforms, coordinating in-person and virtual trainings, and scheduling training sessions.
  • Independently motivated, proactive, and capable of posing questions and solving problems
  • Capable of communicating, working with, and appreciating the diversity of people internally (staff) and externally (partners and consultants)
  • Able to see the big picture while paying close attention to the details.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizing, and working in computer systems and databases.
  • Adaptable and flexible as things change and priorities shift.
  • Professional and strong personal ethics.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate the office.
  • Must be able to lift fifteen pounds at a time.
  • Occasional travel required.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary range: $60K-70K (negotiable with commensurate qualifications and experience)
