Daily Job Duties

Sr. Accounting Specialist

Summary: Dean’s Professional Services Sr. Accounting Specialist will perform general financial accounting practices and procedures. You will get to utilize your knowledge to assist with multiple accounting competencies.

Daily Contributions

  • Provides financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data; preparing reports.
  • Documents financial transactions by entering account information.
  • Assists in maintaining accounting controls
  • Assists payroll operations by verifying pay rates and answering questions related to general HR matters.
  • Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing account information.
  • Assists accounting director in protecting financial security by following internal controls.
  • Prepares payments by verifying documentation and receiving approvals from an authorized manager
  • Answers accounting procedure questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and regulations.
  • Prepares special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping financial information confidential
  • Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts, bank statements, and fixed assets.
  • Prepares, posts, and verifies the accuracy of journal entries. Analyzes general ledger accounts and records entries in accordance with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Prepares and files required reports to ensure compliance with GAAP and/or customer requests
  • Completes moderately complex accounting assignments and ensures that comprehensive accounting records are maintained in an organized manner.
  • Manage inventory, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, notes payable, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrued expenses, accruals, deposits, refunds, taxes, and intercompany activity processes.
  • Prepare, post, and verify the accuracy of journal entries and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with W2 and 1099 processing and all year-end reporting related matters.
  • Assist with monthly closing of financial records, perform account reconciliations, and post of month end information.
  • Daily reporting as required
  • Client reporting upon request
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications


Qualifications for Accounting Assistants

  • 0-3 years of relevant, hands-on accounting experience
  • Associate degree in Accounting, Bookkeeping, Finance, or similar field.
    • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience can be substituted.
  • Ethical behavior when dealing with sensitive financial information.
  • High level of accuracy and efficiency.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Courteous, professional manner, strong customer service skills.
  • Proficient to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications, including Excel
  • Ability to work independently on assigned duties.
  • Demonstrates an ability to manage a variety of priorities while meeting deadlines.

Skills:

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and oral format.
  • Meet all deadlines throughout the month and during the month end.
  • Work well with cross function teams
  • Communicate effectively in written and oral format.
