Required Qualifications:This position requires an L.L.B or Doctor of Jurisprudence and must be licensed to practice law in the State of Florida. A minimum of two (2) years of related experience is also required.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Education Law is preferred.

Key Responsibilities: This is not a comprehensive list of responsibilities.

  • Review, revise and negotiate agreements on behalf of the College; review agreements for construction; draft and negotiate facility leases, subleases, and rental agreements; work with all College departments and vendors to negotiate and draft agreements for information technology, allied health, academic affairs, student affairs, business services and purchasing.
  • Assist the General Counsel in the management of litigation, employment, insurance defense and other general liability matters. Provide legal advice and assistance to College administration regarding College policy and procedure as well as state and federal law.
  • Review and research federal and state laws and regulations, board policies and college procedures to determine and evaluate the impact on the operation of the College.
  • Draft legal memoranda with supporting legal research for all College operations. Prepares responses to legal issues related to federal and state reporting requirements.
  • Maintain familiarity with Board policies and College procedures, federal and state laws and regulations affecting College operations.
  • Provide legal defense for the College before federal and state agencies and in compliance reviews and complaints.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment and be familiar with law pertaining to educational institutions, especially in the area of contracts, employee relations, students, faculty, and liability.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to be flexible to meet the demands of the College.
  • Ability to analyze problems, identifying alternative solutions, projecting consequences of proposed actions and implementing recommendations.
  • Knowledge of computers, peripherals, and software programs such as the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong legal research, analysis and negotiation skills.
