SUMMARY:
The Safety Advisor will be responsible for certifying drivers and assisting them to maintain their safety certification through coaching, education, and information about proper driving techniques, injury prevention techniques, and regulatory compliance requirements. They will also assist with the driver onboarding and orientation process.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am-4:00pm - This is an in office position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Instruct drivers about the proper operating technique expectations utilizing Dart Express’ ETP information
· Enhance ETP information by developing training topics that demonstrate solutions to adverse driving situations including weather, road conditions, congestion, construction zones, and emergency situations
· Be conversant and able to coach equipment inspection, maintenance, cargo securement, claims reporting, personal health, drug and alcohol, hazardous material transportation, and hours of service
· Conduct critical analysis of accidents and injuries to determine preventability and be able to comprehend and verbalize actions to reduce exposure
· Consult with Fleet Managers and CMV drivers who have violations or cited at a roadside inspection or be available to assist operations when needed with consultation
· Consult with contractors who are observed operating in a less than safe manner or any contractor involved in a crash or incident to determine the best plan to correct errors in technique, judgement, or certification continuance
· Be aware and alert to “Red Flag” violations
· Assist with the Driver onboarding and orientation process.
· Conduct Road Evaluations
· Require drivers to comply with “Hours of Service” rules referenced in FMCSR Part 395 and be prepared to render assistance for both electronic and paper RODS requirements
· Proactively support the organization’s goals and objectives
QUALIFICATION AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
· High School Diploma
· Be able to conduct on the road demonstration to enhance driver awareness, attentiveness, correct driving techniques, and safe operation
· Have a basic understanding of FMCSR Part 396, “Inspection, Repair, and maintenance”
· Be conversant in the administration of Part 397, “Transportation of Hazardous Materials” and Part 395, “Hours of Service of Drivers”
· Have working knowledge of Microsoft (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, etc)
· The ability to multi-task, work in a fast pace environment, be detail oriented with strong written and oral skills while maintaining effective communication
· The ability to handle stressful situations in a non-confrontational, problem solving manner is required
· A Class A CDL is preferred
