The Senior Scientist I is responsible for development and optimization of real time PCR and RT-PCR assays for host response project. As a Senior Scientist I, selected candidate will have opportunity to act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead project with moderate risks and resource requirements as well as lead others to takes a new perspective using existing solutions to resolve project related issues.

This position is part of Assay Research & Development and will be located in Sunnyvale, CA (Hybrid). At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Design and development of real time PCR and RT-PCR IVD assay.
• Plan and execute rigorous analytical studies required to demonstrate technical feasibility of complex assays.
• Apply a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions.
• Guide/mentor junior associates.

The essential requirements of the job include:

• Control material/method development and evaluation experience for DNA/mRNA IVD assay.
• Data collection and analysis for biomarker research.
• Handling clinical samples and assist in work on BSL-1 and BSL-2 organisms.
• Experience with 2 years in DNA/RNA extraction and purification from different sample types.
• Bachelor’s degree in Molecular biology/Bioinformatics or related field with 5 years of related work experience OR Master’s degree in Molecular biology/Bioinformatics or related field with 3 years of related work experience OR Doctoral degree in Molecular biology/Bioinformatics or related field with 0-2 years of related work experience.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Assay development on GeneXpert platform with experience in bacterial/viral assay development.
• Analyzing complex sequence alignments and data analysis from Sanger sequence and whole genome sequencing result outputs.
• Excel, Python or Linux platform to develop macros as needed.

The salary range for this role is 103,000- 142,000 USD Annual. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
