Dallas Independent School District is Hiring a Community Liaison (Grades: EC-5) Near Dallas, TX

Description
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Formulate a plan to increase parent involvement.
  • Coordinate a series of parent education activities and programs in an attempt to have an understanding of adolescents.
  • Assist in the procurement and recruitment of community resources; i.e. local businesses, corporations, and organizations.
  • Establish a community center within the school to be utilized by the parents, students and community.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of volunteers and adopters.
  • Serve as a resource for school related organizations, including Parent Teacher Association, Community Advisory Committee, Positive Parents, etc.
  • Provide technical assistance to District staff to achieve a broader understanding of the student community.
  • Work with appropriate community agencies to alleviate problems adversely affecting student attendance and learning.
  • Assist student and parent groups and conduct home visits.
  • Coordinate the home visit program implemented by teachers (in participating schools).
  • Inform parents and students through a variety of forums including face-to-face and community meeting, and school tours.
  • Expose students to and inform parents of community activities, i.e., cultural events, the arts, political issues, etc.
  • Produce and disseminate materials and information pertaining to the school program to its various publics.
  • Attend professional development sessions conducted by the Family & Community Engagement Office.
  • Establish student mentor programs with community and business volunteers.
  • Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.
  • Keep abreast of technical, legislative and professional developments, state and federal laws, that affect the community and student population.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
When performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; communicate verbally and electronically; stand, and move throughout the building and/or to other facilities; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl; climb; balance and drive. Frequently required to life or exert force of up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequently required to work prolonged and irregular hours.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Travel is integral to this position to school, department locations and throughout the community.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Three years of documented school and/or community based experience
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge of methods andprocedures for effectively involving home, school, and community in meeting theeducation needs of children and youth.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of business and community guidelines
