Curio Wellness is Hiring a Payroll and Benefits Manager Near Towson, MD

The Payroll and Benefits Manager is responsible for full cycle multistate payroll processing and benefit administration. This individual will act as the point of contact for associates for all payroll related needs. This cross-functional role will require close collaboration with the Finance Department. This role supports a complex and rapidly growing company – requiring the successful candidate to build new processes and improve existing ones.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position will own payroll and benefits processing for all Curio Wellness associates. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the end-to-end payroll processing to ensure all associates are paid accurately and timely
  • Partner with Operations managers to ensure timely review and submittal of time sheets and payroll information.
  • Oversee process for garnishments, tax reporting and jurisdiction registration set up and ensures garnishments, liens and taxes are processed accurately.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for payroll systems and sets up new payroll departments and locations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local payroll requirements.
  • Research and investigate payroll issues and other escalated payroll inquiries by collaborating with stakeholders and bringing timely resolution
  • Provide payroll reporting and performs reconciliations and audits for W-4s, W-2s, manual checks adjustments, workers compensation audits and 401k audits', etc.
  • Provide support to our Finance team regarding monthly/quarterly payroll accounting entries to ensure accurate reporting and posting to General Ledger
  • Facilitate regular audits in partnership with Finance and People and Culture
  • Partner with other organizational departments to optimize processes and controls
  • Create and maintain payroll SOP’s with an eye towards scaling the payroll function as we grow
  • Set up, audit and verify accuracy of employee benefits deductions
  • Administer steps needed to comply with COBRA laws and deliver continuation of employee benefits
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BS, BA) or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 years of U.S. payroll experience, including supporting a multi-state employee population
  • Excellent understanding of multi-location payroll and taxes
  • Experience with electronic payroll systems
  • Significant experience in Excel, including advanced features (e.g., VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables)
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred
