The Role at a glance:

We are looking to add an experienced Registered Dietitian to our healthcare & senior living team in Ferriday, LA. As a Registered Dietitian, you will have the opportunity to identify and assess the nutritional needs of assigned patients/residents, initiate interventions to achieve and/or maintain individuals nutritional status, and enhance quality of life consistent with patient’s/resident’s goals.

This is a part-time position working 12 - 20 hours per week. Average census is around 12. Schedule is: 2 days onsite - Monday and Friday. with Wednesdays working remote to be available for consults and screens. The 2 days on-site will be a starting time of 7am. The Registered Dietitian will participate in clinical rounds and be available for the medical director when they are on-site. (This position also offers mileage reimbursement if traveling over 25 miles to the location or 50 miles round trip, paid at the federal rate.)

What you'll be doing:

  • Providing nutritional expertise to the health care team and educating patients/residents, staff, or consultants.
  • Following the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ standards of practice and facility regulatory requirements.
  • Interacting with other departments in setting up procedures and policies, and in problem solving as it relates to dining service and nutrition.
  • Actively participating in the development, review, and revision of continuous quality improvement programs.
  • Conduct test tray audits
  • Conduct safety and sanitation audits
  • Complete meal rounds

Meetings:

  • RD will attend the department head meeting every third Wednesday.

Day-To-Day:

  • Provide Nutrition Assessments for admissions, quarterly assessments, annual assessments, tube feedings, weight changes /-4% in 1 month, wounds, and for significant change assessments (such as a hospice admission or a significant improvement in ADLs)
  • Nutrition education as needed and requested by residents
  • Creation and quarterly updates on care plans for nurses/CNAs/CMAs to reference at meals and snacks to tailor to resident food preferences
  • Completion of MDS (Minimum Data Sheets) for Section K and CAAs
  • Use of the nutrition-focused physical exam to identify residents who meet criteria for malnutrition according to ASPEN Malnutrition Criteria
  • Care conference meetings with families to update them on changes with the resident
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary team to provide resident-centered care during weekly clinical meetings
  • QAPI Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Meetings each quarter
  • Monthly Kitchen Inspections and Meal Service Audits

What we're looking for:

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related field
  • Passed a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) or meets the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics requirements for eligibility.
  • Completes 75 hours of continuing education hours every five years, in accordance with the CDR, utilizing the professional portfolio development process.
  • Licensed or certified, per state requirements.
  • Knowledge of regulation standards specific to comprehensive assessments, care planning, and residents’ rights.
  • Ability to teach others, specifically pertaining to nutrition and dietetics.

Nice-to-haves: .

  • Experience working in healthcare or long-term care.
