Cuningham is Hiring a Design Catalyst Near Los Angeles, CA

Be a part of Cuningham's Design Catalyst summer design intensive. This role will provide engagement with Cuningham leaders to dive deep into some of today's real world challenges. As a member of this cohort, you will participate in a unique experiential week with both Cuningham and local Los Angeles community leaders to research current student housing issues in the LA area.

Using this research the cohort will be encouraged to think outside the traditional box; develop and prototype solutions and finally present back findings and solutions. By working closely with a cohort of Cuningham leaders the whole team will push the boundaries of both the typical design process and the typical design solutions. In addition, we believe the more you know about the business side of design, the better prepared you’ll be for the future of our industry to deliver outstanding results to our clients and our communities.

Working with us, you will have opportunities to

  • Participate in a week-long research experience - embedded in the Los Angeles community.
  • Establish relationships with cross-industry innovation leaders to build a body of research and design solutions that address attainable student housing challenges in Los Angeles.
  • Actualize research findings to present solutions that embrace change, uplift regenerative design methods and materials, and positively impact community members.
  • Consider how emerging technologies can be applied to solve the design challenge. Utilize state-of-the-art technology such as virtual reality, 3D modeling and printing, and gaming engine driven walkthroughs to tell project stories
  • Research and collaborate on emerging regenerative design practices, high performance building analytics, and resiliency planning.
  • Learn about an array of project types, go behind-the-scenes of project management, and discover the ins and outs of a national practice through learning opportunities that provide our summer cohort with access to every area of the firm and its leadership. 
To be eligible
  • A strong desire to learn and actively engage with local community organizations, cohort members, and mentors around the country.
  • Current enrollment in a graduate-level program or equivalent professional experience in one or more of the following areas of expertise: Architecture, Interior Design, Landscape Architecture/Urban Planning, Design Research, Environmental Justice/Regenerative Design, Computational Design, Community Activism and Engagement
  • The Design Catalyst program is located in Los Angeles, applicants must be able to be in Los Angeles for the duration of the program, Cuningham will not provide housing.
  • Availability to participate in the seven-week experience, 40 hours per week (less July 4 holiday); no early or late start dates permitted
  • Willingness to work in our Culver City office up to three times a week throughout the program.

  • Interview dates: April 3 - 8
  • Selection notification: April 19
  • Design Catalyst dates: June 17 - August 2

$25 - $25 an hour
Cohort participants will be paid $25 per hour, on an hourly basis for the duration of the program.
