Job Overview

We are currently seeking a Safety Specialist to join our team. As a Safety Specialist, you will play a key role in maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations, as well as managing companywide safety programs to build a strong safety culture.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a degree in Safety, EHS, or a related field, OSHA knowledge, and possess strong communication skills with all levels of employees. Experience with safety compliance in a manufacturing setting is a plus.

In this role, you will be required to travel to our various branches approximately 50% of the time, with the remaining 50% of your time spent behind a computer. You will be responsible for conducting safety audits, developing and implementing safety policies and procedures, and providing safety training to employees.

  • Must be able to read, fully comprehend, and implement requirements of laws, regulations, and technical documents
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in safety/EHS or related field OR a minimum of 3 years of safety compliance experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting
  • Possess knowledge of general industry safety and health standards (OSHA)
  • Desire to learn and grow professionally and as a leader of a safety culture
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification or willingness to pursue – Preferred*
  • Must be able to pass background and reference checks, as well as a drug test
  • Must maintain an active driver’s license with a clean driving record

Scope of
responsibility:
  • Assist in the management of safety systems and programs at a companywide and branch level
  • Help review and evaluate existing policy and training program materials to ensure compliance and maintain relevance
  • Complete and maintain all customer-required rescreens/qualifications, including company accounts on Avetta and ISNetworld
  • Administer, review, and support the fleet safety tools, including the Samsara platform
  • Facilitate and support company equipment inspection program and PPE programs
  • Support the collection, reporting, and completion of key corrective and preventative actions arising from safety audits and hazard evaluations
  • Participate in company committees focused on employee and workplace safety
  • Participate on cross-functional teams to identify appropriate solutions to problems and challenges, either well defined by regulation, or creative and non-traditional, and provide proper follow-through to ensure the solution is completed in an effective and timely manner
  • Provide direct assistance in the evaluation and interpretation of incident and injury reports and statistics to identify and correct hazard trends
  • Help support the use and application of the root cause analysis processes
  • Support all CW safety initiatives and serve as a constant example of strong safety leadership to install a culture of safe behaviors
  • Work cooperatively with other corporate groups, including Human Resources and Legal to guide and manage risk assessment programs
