The CU Medicine team delivers business operations, revenue cycle and administrative services to support the patients of over 3,500 University of Colorado School of Medicine physicians and advanced practice providers. These providers bring their unparalleled expertise at the forefront of medicine to deliver trusted, compassionate health care services at primary and specialty care clinics as well as facilities operated by affiliate hospitals of the University of Colorado. Due to the nature of this role, we will only consider candidates who currently reside in Colorado or those with firm plans to relocate to Colorado. This job offers a primarily remote work structure with on-site work required as dictated by the needs of the job.We are seeking a highly motivated Associate Director of Business Operations to join the Revenue Services leadership team. The Associate Director will direct and manage an efficient and effective Business Operations unit inclusive of the Registration and Revenue Operations teams. The individual in this position will ensure assigned teams are highly integrated in support of successful and efficient business operations while maximizing revenue within the constraints of applicable regulatory requirements. As a member of the Revenue Services Leadership Team, the Associate Director will work collaboratively to ensure front to back-end revenue cycle activities are efficient, effective, and highly coordinated. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Develop, direct, and evaluate the workflows/processes of the Registration, Credit Resolution, Payment Posting, Patient Estimates and Contract Management teams. Build and maintain excellent customer relations with key stakeholders from Children’s Colorado (CHCO), University of Colorado Hospital (UCH), and CU School of Medicine (SOM) Departments. Provide responsible financial planning, monitoring, and execution to support cost efficient business operation services while ensuring adequate staffing resources exist for the spectrum of workflows and the ever-increasing volume of revenue cycle work produced by the SOM enterprise. Generate and implement innovative ideas for reducing costs while maintaining or increasing service levels. Collaborate with organizational leadership to plan, design, test, implement and evaluate technology solutions to support and enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness (i.e., transaction editing systems, suite of eligibility resources, Experian suite of tools, Decision Support productivity, resource planning, automation solutions, etc.) Manage a continuous improvement operation, looking for ways to identify, implement and manage best practices.Oversee and provide direction on employee/operational performance and provide periodic monitoring and analysis of productivity metrics to ensure service standards are met and individual workflows are appropriate. Facilitate and participate in various committees on behalf of CU Medicine Revenue Services for consistent flow of information and adequate communication to all necessary entities. Maintain current knowledge of state, local and federal laws related to billing/collections and compliance requirements combined with an understanding of carrier payment policies.Recruit, train, develop and lead the Business Operations Management Team to meet the needs of the operationOversee hiring, termination, and operating expenses for the Business Operations DepartmentProvide leadership in the retention, development, recruitment and hiring activities of/for qualified staff to support necessary operational functions. Perform other duties and assist with special projects as assigned Requires a minimum of 8 years healthcare professional billing experience with at least 5 years in an Academic Medical Center or large Health Care system. Must possess a bachelor’s degree in healthcare, business, or related field; Master’s degree is a plus. Prior staff management experience is required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must demonstrate knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 diagnoses codes used for billing services provided by physicians, licensed non-physician practitioners, and ancillary staff. High level proficiency with medical billing systems (preferably GE) and Electronic Medical Record systems (preferably EPIC) is essential to success. Must possess leadership abilities to motivate, direct, coach and mentor the activities of a large professional staff as this role will lead 70 direct/indirect reports. The ideal candidate will possess strong teamwork and analytical skills while continuing professional growth through education, goal setting and personal development. Must conduct oneself in a professional manner in all interactions and demonstrate an attitude which inspires staff to perform at the highest level. The ability to effectively respond to customer needs and expectations is key. Must be self-driven and independent to perform this role with minimal supervision, notice and/or direction to identify and resolve problems and complete work.
