CTTRANSIT is Hiring a CTtransit Training Manager (Hartford) Near Hartford, CT

Job Description

Acts as CTtransit’s safety and training frontline leader in providing education and individualized performance coaching in safety and customer service and in managing supervisory tasks and special projects that achieve company goals, improve operator performance, and ensure safe, reliable, responsive service.

Examples of Duties

  • Assists to execute all new bus operator application review, interview processes and on-boarding.
  • Supports all bus operator training needs, establishes training objectives, outlines, handouts, updated participant workbooks and, trainer guides, and training activities which will develop required knowledge and skills required by Operators.
  • Leads CDL training and endorsement training programs for the CTtransit Brand as well as other CTDOT approved statewide transit services.
  • Coordinates CT-DMV testing for all employee requiring endorsement additions and restriction removals.
  • Directs and executes all safety/security training programs by utilizing a variety of methods, including lecture, discussion, skill practice activities, and media to achieve safety and customer service training objectives and develop participant knowledge and skills.
  • Supports ongoing evaluation and documented observations of operator performance with supplemental training as required.
  • In conjunction with the Transportation Department, manages the administration of the Company’s uniform program and all Company training programs, including communications to participants, tracking and record keeping, materials inventory, special events coordination, and program evaluation records.
  • Develops and provides special orientations, equipment demonstrations, and training for community groups and first-responder agencies, as required.
  • Creates presentations, video content, bulletins and other safety and training department messaging.
  • Conducts employee safety observations, safety inspections and security audits
  • Responsible for cataloging trainee CDL records, medical certificates, DMV credentials and training files.
  • Conducts retraining programs related to disciplinary and non-disciplinary matters including safety and security topics as required.
  • Administers, develops and implements various personnel policies and procedures related to training of employees.
  • Attends in-service training, seminars or other opportunities for professional development as made available by the Agency. Provides training for Agency personnel as required. Actively participates in staff meetings, trainings, etc.
  • Has thorough working knowledge of Agency policies and procedures.
  • Assists in managing emergencies involving the Safety Department as needed on a 24/7 basis.
  • Work cooperatively with all levels of personnel.
  • May be required to operate revenue vehicles as needed.
  • Administers trainee and probationary employee discipline for safety and training related policy violations and drafts associated reports and documentation.
  • Assists in other departments and divisions as needed.
  • Additional administrative duties as assigned.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum possession of a bachelor’s degree, technical education certifications in Transportation, Operations, Safety, Management, Business, Public Administration or a closely related field and five (5) years of relevant work experience is required. A minimum of 2 years of leadership experience is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience on a year for year basis can be substituted for the 4-year degree requirement.
  • Experience in managing employees in a union environment, interviewing, hiring, training, employee development, employee discipline.
  • Knowledge of public transit operations, policies and procedures, CDL training programs, transportation rules and regulations, traffic laws, routes, union contract provisions, transportation technologies, and other related information is required.
  • Contractual requirements in a transit environment, knowledge of and the ability to model safe driving and customer service skills is required.
  • A valid Commercial Driver's License with the passenger service endorsements is required. Individual may be required to travel in the course of their daily work.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to multitask, manage multiple employees, ability to conduct training when necessary.
  • The ability to prioritize projects and have excellent oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy, demonstrated ability to present information in a clear, well-organized manner, to provide step-by-step instructions and constructive feedback, and excellent written communications skills are essential.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Willing to work various shifts and respond to emergencies as needed that may be outside of typical business hours.
  • Must be able to handle confidential information.
  • OSHA 30 preferred or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Proficient in software programs (word processing, spreadsheet and database), Internet applications and utilization of all relevant office equipment. The ability to learn quickly internal software programs.
