Overall Purpose: Why the Job Exists & What You Will Do:
As a detailer, you will create the designs, layouts, drawings, production prints, and/or edits for new and/or existing products and jobs for customers, based upon LeMar Des Moines standards, AISC/CE/AWS standards and customer specifications ensuring all jobs are designed and produced on-time, complete and error free.
Essential Job Functions & Expected Outcomes: Your Accountabilities in the Role 
  1. Essential Functions
  1. Creates the designs, layouts, drawings, production prints and/or edits for new and/or existing products and jobs for customers utilizing AutoDesk Inventor, Vault and AutoCAD, ensuring all drawings accurately meet all requirements as established by AISC, CE, OSHA, AWS, LeMar Des Moines and customer needs.
  2. Learn to efficiently produce shop detail drawings, erection plans, and bill of materials (including grade, size and quantity) for both standard and custom structural products within all LeMar product lines.
  3. Deliver drawings according to the production schedule while interpreting and incorporating accurately all customer designs and specifications.
  4. Start and maintain a record of all design drawings and revisions in current drawing log.
  5. Produce anchor bolt plans, erection, assembly, and shop drawings required to complete fabrication and erection of a project.
  6. Coordinate with LeMar Des Moines engineers concerning RFIs, concepts, and requirements.
  7. Work with production, purchasing and other groups to ensure all questions, issues and/or problems are resolved to ensure projects are shipped on-time, complete and error free.
  8. Compiles customer approval drawings for submittal to Sr. Structural Designer.
  9. Creates and enters Bill of Material and routes into ERP software.
  10. All other projects or items which may be assigned from LeMar Plant Leadership or CTB, Inc.

The job criteria may include other duties, responsibilities, and activities, which may change or be assigned at any item with or without notice.

Position Requirements:
  1. Education: Applicable undergraduate degree; would consider a combination of education and experience.
  2. Experience:Any experience with 3D/2D AutoCAD and Inventor (or similar drafting programs) with steel structural manufacturing preferred.
  3. Certification(s): None.
  4. Functional Skills: Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills are required for this role. Excellent planning, prioritizing, attention to detail, and follow-up are also needed to meet the job functions. Experience with structured processes who can enhance current processes along the way. Strong ability to research and source material or vendor options to meet production and budget goals. Some formal leadership experience is preferred.
  5. Technology Aptitude/Skills: Intermediate in MS Office Suite; primarily Microsoft Excel/Word. ERP experience (Oracle) preferred but not required. Strong aptitude with technology; can learn quickly and create more efficient processes. Knowledge within AutoCad, Autodesk Inventor, Vault or similar 3D/2D programs.
  6. Language Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  7. Leadership/Behaviors: Self-starter who can work independently and learn quickly; ability to create structural drawings from customer requirements while following all CE, AISC, AWS, etc. specifications.

Physical Requirements to Perform Essential Functions:
  • Ability to sit and operate a motor vehicle as needed for travel in this role.
  • Ability to sit at desk for 5 hours per day
  • Ability to operate keyboard and view computer screen for majority of day 6-7 hours
  • Ability to write ideas/information in a logical flow for 5 hours per day
  • Ability to read and respond on an on-going basis daily due to nature of the work, throughout the day
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Ability to communicate with others via phone, in-person, and computer on-going 
  • Ability to listen to customers, problem-solve, and respond accordingly
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, kneel, squat, twist, push, pull, walk, stoop, crouch, and carry items frequently
  • Lifting up to 15 lbs. sporadically
Environmental Conditions & Travel:
  • The employee is primarily exposed to a normal office environment with moderate noise. The employee is occasionally required to wear suitable Personal Protective Equipment while visiting manufacturing departments. 
  • This position may face inclement weather conditions when traveling. 
  • Travel: Limited, when necessary/required to visit other facilities and/or customers.
