The California State University, Dominguez Hills Toro Auxiliary Partners was incorporated in 1968 as a partner of the University to provide services and develop and enhance programs that are an integral part of the University's educational mission. CSU Dominguez Hills is a highly diverse, metropolitan university primarily serving the South Bay area of Los Angeles County.

Established in 1960, CSU Dominguez Hills is one of the 23 campuses that comprise the California State University system.

About the Position

The Center for Innovation in STEM Education has partnered with Apple and launched the Technology for Everyone 1 (T4E1) Program. The T4E1 Program is dedicated to increasing student and teacher exposure to the fields of Computer Science, Science, Technology, Engineering, and mathematics. Computer Science Scholars report directly to the T4E1 Coordinator and work to support coding and technology-related instruction. They assist the CISE Instructional Team while serving as student role models for students. After completing Apple Teacher Badge training, and Swift Playgrounds: Learn to Code 1&2, the CSUDH Computer Science Scholars collaborate with their peers to prepare lessons, and lead whole group and small group instruction, to ensure that stakeholders acquire and master the coding skills as delineated by the Everyone Can Code (ECC) and Develop in Swift book series.

This is a part-time, non-exempt, non-benefited position.

Position Information

Employment at Toro Auxiliary Partners is on an at-will basis. It can be terminated by either an employee or Toro Auxiliary Partners at any time with or without cause or advanced notice.

Permanent status can neither be obtained nor granted.

Salary Range

$17.00 - 19.00 per hour (DOE)

Responsibilities

  • Complete all required pieces of training, including:
    • Apple Teacher Badges (iPad and Mac)
    • Everyone Can Code (Puzzles Adventures) & Exploration Curriculum
    • Swift Playgrounds Learn to Code 1&2
    • Develop in Swift
  • Attend the Apple CEI professional development session meetings and remain up-to-date with current apps, curriculum, and events related to the program.
  • Report on time to weekly planning meetings and weekly assignments.
  • Maintain a consistent attendance schedule.
  • Main responsibility is to lead instruction and help students learn, reviewing content with them, explaining how to solve problems, and checking for understanding, including but not limited to engaging in academic activities, providing educational support, collaborating with the lead teacher, CISE supervisors, and presenting feedback to improve student performance on CBL/app development.
  • Consistently maintain appropriate and professional communication with supervisors, staff, teachers, school administration, and students.
  • Report all relevant information to the project coordinator and direct supervisor.
  • Ensure a safe learning environment and organized program.
  • Adhere to workplace safety guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Education:

  • Majoring in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or a STEM major in general (Freshmen-Seniors)
  • Enrollment status in at least 6 units per term/semester at a 2-year or 4-year institution or College graduate with a Bachelor’s degree.
  • Must maintain a minimum grade point average (G.P.A) of 2.0 to qualify for or continue employment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly qualified tutors with substantial career experience in the content area.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment as needed.
  • Ability to interface and interact with all levels of staff (administrators, teachers, and students).
  • Self-motivated, responsible, and professional attitude at all times.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to arrive at the worksite at the scheduled time when meeting in person.
  • Must have access to a reliable internet connection and arrive on-time for online instruction.
  • Must pass a criminal background check (LiveScan fingerprinting) and Background prior to beginning employment with children
  • Must present proof of negative Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) prior to beginning employment dated within 60 days (no reimbursement).
  • Must have a driver’s license and be able to provide their own reliable transportation to transport materials to site when needed.
