Environmental Scientist II
The Environmental Scientist II is responsible for a variety of Task Management and Scientific work on all phases of projects, particularly regarding environmental and regulatory compliance and permitting. This position prepares applicable technical documents including proposals, reports, and regulatory agency correspondence. Projects may include Phase I environmental site assessments, ecological and natural resource field surveys, storm water management, wetlands delineations, and site planning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Coordinating efforts and field sampling events, in various site settings
- Performing oversight of drilling operations including soil boring advancement and the installation of groundwater monitoring wells and/or piezometers
- Assisting senior staff with the preparation of proposals and technical reports,
- Supporting various projects within Environmental Branch (e.g., Phase I/Phase II Environmental Site Assessments, asbestos sampling, and wetland delineations)
- Daytime travel and overnight (up to a week or more) travel required, as needed
- Overtime required, as needed
- Evaluation of site risk following the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) Risk Evaluation Corrective Action Program (RECAP)
- Proven experience managing environmental projects in accordance with Louisiana Environmental Rules
Minimum Qualifications
Education: BS or MS degree in Geology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or related field,
Experience: 1 to 3 years relatable experience, Louisiana PG or PE eligible with (1-5) years of related experience, Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIG)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience: 40 hr. OSHA HAZWOPER Certified, AutoCAD and/or GIS experience preferred
Core Competencies
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (English)
- Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively with team members as well as independently
- Must pass drug test, physical and background check and
- Must have and maintain a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions, and frequently lift to 35 pounds
