Fiscal - Senior Grant Accountant

100% Onsite - Los Angeles CA 90056

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking a Senior Grant Accountant that will be responsible for fiscal oversight of Head Start and Early Head Start programs and related federal, state and other funding sources to support the program. The position will prepare financial reports, provide analysis including and prepare budgets and narratives for funding applications in collaboration with program management. The position will also perform routine accounting tasks, review accounts payable transactions, monitor budgets, and assist and review the work of other staff performing grant and contract tasks for Head Start and Early Head Start.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions

1. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for funders, Policy Council, and program management.
2. Monitor expenditures and budgets for assigned contracts/grants, reporting inconsistencies with the approved budget to the Head Start Director and other program management.
3. Develop budgets and prepare reports, having developed a good understanding of the Performance Standards, Head Start Act, Uniform Administrative and Cost Principles for federally funded programs, State Funding Terms and Conditions, and other funding source requirements, and operational policies.
4. Perform grant close-out activities, including reconciliations, final invoices, financial status reports, liquidations, and submitting timely and accurate reports.
5. Record monthly revenue and corresponding receivable.
6. Review weekly cash drawdowns to meet agency policies and funding regulations.
7. Ensure general ledger entries for accuracy, preparing adjusting journal entries as needed .
8. Review accounts payable transactions for correct expense codes, cost allocation, funder approval, allowability, allocability, and reasonableness. Train program team to ensure these principles are understood.
9. Attend or present at monthly Policy Council meetings to provide financial reports and other updates.
10. The Senior Fiscal Grant Accountant may be assigned other tasks in support of department and Agency goals.

The Skills You Possess

Knowledge of GAAP, Uniform Administrative Requirements and Cost Principles, budgeting, cost allocation, and non-profit accounting; strong computer skills, including intermediate knowledge of Excel and must know how to use vlookup, sumif, and linking; proficient in the use of computerized accounting systems, including report creation and report template building; and working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications. Preferred experience using Blackbaud Finance Edge NXT.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or in business with an emphasis in accounting or finance. Extensive related work experience in accounting may be substituted for college education.

• Minimum of five years work experience in accounting or finance, including general ledger reconciliations and financial statement preparation; Preferred experience in non-profit accounting, financial reporting and budgeting for government funded contracts and grants
