Date Available: August 2023 Primary Purpose: To guide the implementation of strategies to support the social and emotional learning of all students with a specialized focus on effective classroom management and structures to improve school climate. This will include identifying best and promising practices and developing the systems necessary for those practices to be implemented with fidelity. This will also include developing systems to measure impact on desired student and school outcomes as directed by the campus principal in collaboration with the Social and Emotional Learning Department. Qualifications:Education/Certification:
Valid Texas teaching credentials
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong knowledge of SEL strategies as appropriate to assignment
Exceptional communication skills
Knowledge of effective SEL instructional strategies and research-based best practices
Knowledge and success in working with diverse and underrepresented youth and communities
Knowledge and experience in SEL strategy implementation
Knowledge and experience in progress monitoring
Evidence of skills in planning, organization, and collaboration
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of effective professional development practices
Knowledge of effective classroom management strategies
Passion for increasing student achievement
Experience using student and campus level data to select, implement and differentiate instructional methods, designed to meet each student’s individual needs
Experience:
At least 3 years of recent successful classroom teaching experience
Prefer 3-5 years working in or with an urban education system with a focus on social, emotional, and behavioral supports strongly preferred
Providing coaching and technical assistance to peer and non-peer audiences
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide support/mentoring/coaching/training for identified teachers.
Assist in conducting comprehensive needs assessments to identify teaching and learning needs, utilizing the information to help organize and implement problem-solving strategies with teachers and their students.
Assist in providing training and coaching with best practices in a multi-tiered system of supports to meet students’ social and emotional needs.
Understand cultural competency in order to navigate and promote sensitivity with issues of race and equity.
Work with teachers (in teams or individually) to refine their knowledge and skills by utilizing strategies such as in-class coaching, peer observation, co-teaching and modeling.
Facilitate protocols for restorative practices at the campus including conducting intake assessments, preparing participants, informing and inviting families, facilitating the process, developing an agreed upon plan, and conducting follow up.
Coordinate and collaborate with diverse groups of professionals across multiple departments and organizations.
Conduct classroom walkthroughs (non-evaluative) as determined by the campus principal or the SEL Department.
Provide instruction to students in small groups and/or individuals.
Assist school staff in the development of positive behavior supports and behavior intervention plans.
Assist with non-violent crisis intervention such as de-escalation and physical restraints.
Refer students and families to outside agencies when the scope of support is beyond the role of the SEL Specialist.District Level Responsibilites and Duties:
Assist with design and implementation of high-quality building-level professional development.
Assist with the design and implementation of SEL best practices.
Engage in community events.
Coordinate community service opportunities.
Salary - teacher scale plus $3200 stipend for 10 additional days
