Crossroads Rhode Island is Hiring a Housing Navigator Near Providence, RI

Description

Position: Housing Navigator

Reports To: Director of Housing Navigation

Purpose of Position: Prospect and develop NEW landlord relationships to provide homeless individuals appropriate housing as part of Crossroads Rhode Island’s Statewide Housing Navigation which also supports the Landlord Incentive Program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prospect and establish NEW landlords’ relationships to develop a “housing bank” of apartments/housing units suitable for the homeless and marginalized population of clients that we serve.
  • Conducts outreach and expands access to housing by cultivating relationships with property owners and management companies and connecting with landlords via neighborhood outreach, internet search, and networking events.
  • Provides Statewide Housing Navigation Program with listings of potential housing units in alignment with client needs and geographic preferences.
  • Ensure all identified units meet HUD’s rent requirements.
  • Provide timely initial inspections to ensure compliance with HUD safety standards and lead-safe status.
  • Coordinate apartment showings and move-in schedules.
  • Coordinate and conduct lease review and signings.
  • Liaison with landlord, staff, and clients to facilitate successful occupancy.
  • Act as an advocate for the client.
  • Maintain spreadsheets and database information.
  • Advocates for the mission of the organization and promotes and upholds the agency's values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Experience and Education:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in real estate and/or property management is required.
  • Additional human services experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work with homeless and marginalized populations.
  • Knowledge of the neighborhoods where housing is located and knowledge of landlord/ tenant laws, and safety standards for rental housing.
  • Computer skills and data entry required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel in the community.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
