Description

Position Summary

The Crossing Healthcare physician provides high quality, comprehensive, primary health care to clients who are underserved in the Decatur/Macon County area. In addition, these providers work to achieve State and Federal standards in both quality and productivity.

 

Position Status

This is a full-time exempt or part time, non-exempt position. The Physician reports to the Medical Director and has supervisory authority over all other clinical staff.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Provides primary care which meets the following requirements:

  • Demonstrates appropriate work habits to include:
    • Arriving on time for clinic and calling nurse if more than 15 minutes late
    • Arriving on time for meetings
    • Maintaining appropriate patient confidentiality
    • Participating in peer review
    • Utilizing appropriate infection control measures
  • Maintains adequate, concise and legible documentation of patient care which includes:
    • Assessment
    • Diagnostic procedures
    • Drug allergies
    • Medication records
    • Patient education
    • Subjective and objective data
    • Treatment plan
  • Maintains administrative responsibilities if needed, to include:
    • Make direct referrals for patients when necessary
    • Participating in clinical staff inservices
    • Participating in utilization reviews conducted by medical and nursing advisory committee
    • Participating on a Quality Improvement committee
  • Maintains minimum productivity range by continuously meeting predetermined Federal and State standards
  • Manages patients to assure continuity of care to include adequate follow-up of chronic problems and abnormal tests as well as adequate tracking of return visits and completion of treatment plans
  • Manages the care of patients in collaboration with other health professionals and members of the healthcare team in order to make decisions about treatment and attain health goals.
  • Provides appropriate interpersonal care to include:
    • Listening to patient conclusions, clearly explaining diagnosis and treatment; and answering patient questions
    • Treating patients and staff in a courteous, caring, respectful manner
    • Treating patients and staff in a friendly manner
  • Provides appropriate patient education
  • Provides appropriate referrals to mental health, clinical counselor, medication program, social services and other personnel in order to provide interactive care addressing biological, psychological and environmental factors
  • Refers to medical/surgical consultants when required
  • Staffs health department or other clinics if on-site responsibilities allow
  • Utilizes appropriate and effective diagnosis and treatment plans, including adequate use of consultants and presides in adequate outcomes
  • Performs other duties of a physician as required

Education and Experience

  • Ability to relate to the economically disadvantaged and minority population of the community
  • Ability to secure local hospital privileges
  • Board eligible/certified
  • DEA completion and certification
  • Residency Program

  • Proficiency in use of telephone system, computer, and basic office equipment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to deliver medical services and use equipment.
  • Ability to work in conditions that include exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissues, contagious diseases and/or other potentially hazardous materials
  • Fine motor coordination sufficient to perform manipulative skills
  • Moderate physical exertion including frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching and carrying moderately heavy loads (up to 25 lbs.)
