Position: Account Manager – Commercial Lines Team

Reports to: Vice President, Commercial Division

Overview: An Account Manager is an experienced insurance professional performing the essential functions described in this description. Functions include aiding clients with renewals, service requests, claims and policy changes in the assigned book of business. Account Managers assist the Vice President, Commercial Division and Producers in the handling and processing of new and renewal commercial business.

Responsibilities:

Market, evaluate and negotiate renewals, create renewal proposals and handle other renewal activities in coordination with assigned producers. Develop relationships with underwriters and wholesalers to assess market capabilities for renewal business. Perform all necessary preparation work for renewal quotation and issuance, including applications, rating, and premium billing direct and agency billing items.

Manage renewal policies, endorsements and additional information from underwriting companies. Check renewals, new policies, endorsements and audits for accuracy in rating, content, typing and coverage. Generate appropriate billing. Ensure all renewals are produced and provided clients.

Develop relationships with client contacts to review needs and support good client communications including assessing needs for renewals and other products. Inform clients about policy coverage changes and exclusions. Assist in generating new business by rounding out assigned accounts. Actively seek referrals from current book of business including providing referrals of current clients to the Life & Health and Personal Lines Teams for their solicitation of those product lines.

Prepare binders, certificates, account reviews, loss reviews, endorsements, ID cards, schedules of insurance, checklists and loss policy releases as necessary. Insure items are delivered or mailed to client or underwriting company. Initiate correspondence with client or underwriting company as necessary.

Use, maintain, and keep current agency follow-up system for all outstanding orders, correspondence, audits, claims and other items which need reaction by client or underwriting company.

Follow agency credit and collection practices in managing prompt payment and overdue items. Determine reasons for cancellations and act to save accounts with producers. Process and correspond on cancellations with carriers to ensure accurate and timely resolution.

Maintain awareness and follow agency Errors and Omission Prevention Guidelines.

Perform as a committed team member by providing support for Commercial Lines Team and agency goals. Provide assistance and backup support to other team members to ensure superior and consistent service to all agency clients.

Maintain files, manuals and workspace in an orderly and up to date manner.

Keep Vice President Commercial Division and Producers informed as necessary.

Qualifications: Broad knowledge of commercial insurance products and their applications commensurate with experience in industry. Maintain proficient level of expertise through education both self and agency directed.

Knowledge of commercial insurance carrier operations and their products.

Knowledge of commercial carrier websites, their rating functions, resources and their application to Account Management responsibilities.

Excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to negotiate as well as an ease in explaining and interpreting complex issues.
