Crockett Independent School District is Hiring a Master Teacher - High School Near Texas, TX

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Master teachers function in a unique manner relative to the traditional teacher. This position is often cited by practitioners as the most integral for successful TAP implementation. Where schools implement the TAP system with fidelity to the model, master teachers are recognized as a solid source of support to career teachers. They are not necessarily viewed as “Models of Perfection”, but rather “Lead Learners”. Working with the principal and the leadership team, the master teacher’s primary role is to lead, research and test best practices, plan and implement cluster meetings, grow teachers through Individual Growth Plans, evaluate the effectiveness of instruction and provide feedback, and support the implementation of learned skills to the classroom.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Five (5) years of successful teaching experience preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college/university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate
  • Master’s preferred
  • Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check prior to starting employment. Non-refundable fee paid by employee.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrate expertise in content, curriculum development, student learning, test analysis, mentoring and professional development
  • Instructional leadership experience
  • Excellent communication skills and an understanding of how to facilitate growth in students and adults
  • Positive rapport with students, teachers, and staff

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Leadership

  1. Attend and prepare for leadership team meetings
  2. Lead staff development for campus and district employees
  3. Oversee the planning, facilitation, and follow-up of cluster group meetings
  4. Inform and promote campus activities in and among the community
  5. Assist with daily school responsibilities (such as arrival/dismissal, lunch)
  6. Attend professional development and participate in all TAP training
  7. Help develop School Plan aligned to student academic needs
  8. Evaluate teacher performance by using the TAP Rubric and conduct follow-up teacher conferences as a certified TAP evaluator
  9. Guide and review teachers’ Individual Growth Plans
  10. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Instruction

  1. Develop cluster materials and activities
  2. Model best teaching practices by team-teaching with colleagues, deliver model lessons in Cluster, develop and support curriculum implementation
  3. Observe and provide peer assistance and coaching toward meeting teachers’ Individual Growth Plan goals
  4. Mentor, guide and support mentor teachers
  5. Evaluate lessons and conduct pre- and post- conferences
  6. Analyze school-wide student data as the basis for helping develop a school plan
  7. Research and field-test, within the school, appropriate strategies that target the identified area of student need
  8. Attend professional development meetings

SUPERVISES:

This position will not directly supervise any employees. All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment. However, this position requires evaluating teacher performance and providing feedback.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, sit, use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms using a keyboard and video display terminal. The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and climb stairs. The employee must maintain emotional control under stress, and occasionally work prolonged and/or irregular hours. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 35 pounds. The employee must be able to use appropriate restraint techniques in the event it is necessary to keep student(s) safe. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The work environment is a standard office setting including standard office equipment (fax, copier, phone, computer, 10-key, etc.).
