Cream and Sugar Inc is Hiring a Bistro Coffee Artist Near Coronado, CA

Reports to: Owner, Executive Chef, Director of Operations, Kitchen Manager, Leads

Job Summary: 

Provide friendly, responsive service to create an exceptional customer service experience for all guests by taking orders, making recommendations when appropriate, processing payments, and serving food or beverages to guests at our walk-up window, restaurant counter and tables. The barista will greet customers, answer their questions, take orders and accept payments, and prepare and serve food and drinks. Knowledge of drink recipes, food service and presentation and skilled in coffee knowledge, presentation and art. Our business is a LOCALS favorite and our guests love coming to see our team's faces and personalities as they order Clayton's specialty coffee recipes, drinks and food! Come show us your Barista skills and be part of an amazing team!

Primary Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of Cream & Sugar Inc, DBA: Clayton’s Coffee Shop, Clayton’s Bakery & Bistro and Clayton’s Galley; One Team, One Goal; S.T.I.R.
  • Work with management and colleagues to apply all restaurant policies and procedures.
  • Receive and process guest payments.
  • Prepare or serve hot or cold beverages, such as coffee, espresso drinks, blended coffees, or teas, smoothies and bowls.
  • Promotes coffee consumption by educating customers; selling coffee and coffee grinding and brewing equipment, accessories, and supplies.
  • Welcomes customers by determining their coffee interests and needs.
  • Educates customers by presenting and explaining the coffee drink menu; answering questions.
  • Provide guests with product details, such as coffee blend or preparation descriptions.
  • Sells coffees and coffee grounds by explaining differences in coffee beans and coffee preparation machines; demonstrating how brewing equipment operates.
  • Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks, such as, espresso, espresso lungo, caffe latte, and cappuccino.
  • Generates revenues by attracting new customers; defining new and expanded services and products.
  • Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment and maintaining supplies, paper goods inventories and foodstuffs. 
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations.
  • Improves quality results by studying, evaluating, and redesigning processes; implementing changes; maintaining and improving the appearance of the store and coffee bar.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading coffee, retail trade, and food service publications; maintaining personal networks.
  • Enhances coffee shop reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Clean or sanitize work areas, utensils, or equipment.
  • Describe menu items to guests or suggest products that might appeal to them.
  • Clean service or seating areas.
  • Serve prepared foods, such as muffins, donuts, baked goods or bagels.
  • Prepare or serve menu items, such as smoothies and bowls.
  • Packaging food and beverages for sale.
  • Set up or restock product displays.
  • Weigh, grind, or pack coffee beans for guests.
  • Stock guest service stations with paper products or beverage preparation items.
  • Taking inventory and replenishing items in display cases, at tables, or behind the counter.
  • Wrap, label, or date food items for sale.
  • Take out garbage.
  • Order, receive, or stock supplies or retail products.
  • Slice/Scoop fruits, vegetables, desserts, or frozen products for use in food service.
  • Check temperatures of freezers, refrigerators, or heating equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Demonstrate the use of retail equipment, such as espresso machines.
  • Ability to walk, bend, and stand for extended periods.
  • Availability to work around peak hours, including nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Create signs to advertise store products or events.
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings and offer suggestions for improvement.
  • Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests’ needs and support the operation of the restaurant.
  • Fill-in for fellow employees where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations.
