Job Description:
CRDF Global is seeking a Project Lead, Emerging Technology and Nonproliferation to join the Security Assistance team. The ideal candidate for this position has experience working with international partners in academia, research sectors, the private sector, or government; is passionate about the role of emerging technologies in nonproliferation – particularly biotechnologies or artificial intelligence; preventing the weaponization of emerging technologies; and, securing research, technology, or data from weaponization and misuse.

The Project Lead will leverage project management best practices to implement programming to counter the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and weaponization of advanced and emerging technologies. Programming is specifically focused on countering misuse of emerging technologies with potential WMD and WMD-related delivery system applications by state and non-state actors, as well as leveraging emerging technologies to safeguard WMD-related data and materials. Programming activities may take the form of meetings, workshops, trainings, conferences, grant-making, research competitions, or other activities, both in-person and virtual. Under the supervision of a Senior Project Lead, the Project Lead will manage the technical, financial, and administrative aspects of assigned projects to meet CRDF Global and funder objectives.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Designs and implements projects from inception to completion within a given scope, schedule, and budget using CRDF Global’s project management best practices. This includes using project charters, work breakdown structures, statements of work, schedules, deliverables, monitoring and evaluation plans, and project budgets.
  • Manages stakeholder relations and networking with funders, subject matter experts, and international partners in the governmental, civil society, and private sectors
  • Creates project budgets, conducts project budget forecasting, and manages sub-award budgets, including planning, administration and financial reporting of project expenses.
  • Develops concepts and new project ideas as part of the proposal development process and crafts proposal narratives for submission.
  • Represents the program or projects at external events.
  • Supports other programs and staff, as required
  • Travels within the U.S. and internationally as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • 2-3 years of work experience in a field such as counter proliferation/nonproliferation, advanced and emerging technologies including artificial intelligence/machine learning, blockchain, robotics, quantum computing, biotechnology, or synthetic biology, project management, or other relevant sub-fields of international security
  • Demonstrates strong project management skills and experience, including financial management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Desire to seek constructive input to continuously improve
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with partner organizations and key external stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, collaboration platforms such as Zoom or Slack, teleconferencing/webinar platforms such as Zoom Webinar or Webex, and ability to work with and maintain more advanced databases (experience with Microsoft Project and/or Salesforce is desirable)
  • Familiarity with Moodle e-learning platform desirable
  • U.S. work authorization
