Craft Kettle Brewing Equipment is Hiring a Lead Engineer Near Orleans, LA

Position Summary

This position is great for an engineer who excels at managing people and has broad abilities across multiple disciplines. You'll oversee and help perform all engineering, sizing, selection, and product design duties for all production equipment used in craft breweries, such as milling equipment, brewhouses, cellar tanks, heating sources (low-pressure steam boilers, forced-air burners, and electric heaters), glycol chillers, and packaging equipment. Occasionally, you might need to oversee the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of various equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead the engineering team
  • Design and engineer equipment offerings, including brewhouses, vessels, process pipelines, controls, and other equipment offerings.
  • Draft P&IDs, product design drawings, and fabrication drawings in 2D and 3D CAD, laying out, and specifying technical devices, parts, and equipment, primarily using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Work with brewers to provide equipment recommendations and to provide advice on the use of products.
  • Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, or maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems or processes to meet requirements.
  • Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
  • Help develop, coordinate, or monitor all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, or operation of product designs.
  • Investigate equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedial actions.
  • Occasionally travel to job sites for installation and repair.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 
Supervisory Responsibility

This position is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the engineering and design team. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. However, in some instances, this job may require work in areas where ear protection is necessary.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • Must have a strong understanding of process engineering, tank fabrication, gearboxes and motors, electrical control boxes and automation, cooling/heating systems, and sanitary fabrication standards, particularly in the food and beverage industry.
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related field from a four-year college/university or higher.
  • Must have some experience drafting in AutoCAD and SolidWorks or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Relevant engineering experience or significant education in any of the following fields: pressure vessel design, process engineering, electrical engineering, automation and controls, pipe and plant design, and/ or sanitary design.

Other Desired Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
  • A P.E. in a relevant engineering field
  • General knowledge of brewing and or packaging processes a plus.
  • Commercial brewing experience or experience in a relevant engineering role preferred.
  • forklift, rigging, osha safety, first aid / cpr, welding, hazmat, confined space entry, electrician, steam, plumbing, plc programming, quality assurance, or other certifications

Compensation

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Compensation is commensurate with knowledge, skills, and experience. The position includes access to the company's regular benefits packages, which currently include medical, vision, and dental insurance (50% EE / 25% FAM); 4% 1:1 401k match; holidays, paid time off; sick leave.
