Job Overview

This position is great for a technician or junior engineer with experience building, wiring, and installing industrial controls systems who also enjoys investigating and resolving issues in PLC and controls systems. You'll work under the direction of our engineers to assemble, modify, and test controls systems for a range of brewery equipment, including brewhouses and keg washers. You will also travel onsite for the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of various controls equipment, often playing a significant role in the startup of a new craft brewery.

Job Tasks

  1. assemble/build, wire, and modify electrical controls systems or prototypes, using hand tools. measuring instruments, etc.

  2. evaluate engineering proposals, shop drawings, or design comments for sound electrical engineering practice or conformance with established safety or design criteria

  3. run conduit and connect equipment, cables, tubes, wiring, etc.

  4. inspect or test wiring installations, assemblies, or circuits for resistance factors or for operation and record results for quality control and assurance

  5. identify solutions to on-site technical design problems involving electrical systems equipment

  6. collaborate with engineers or other personnel to identify, define, or solve developmental problems

  7. set up and test equipment to evaluate performance of developmental parts, assemblies, or systems under simulated operating conditions

  8. review electrical engineering criteria to identify necessary revisions, deletions, or amendments to outdated material

  9. write procedures for the commissioning of electrical installations

  10. update and occasionally draft schematics using CAD software

  11. travel to job sites for installation and repair

Work Content

  1. Physical Demands: This position requires occasionally sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, use of his or her hands and fingers, reaching with hands and arms, and talking/listening; the employee will occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

  2. Vision: Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  3. Work Environment: The work environment is occasionally wet or humid (non-weather); includes working near moving mechanical parts, in high/precarious places; there may be potential fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic cleaning chemicals; occasional outdoor weather conditions; there is a potential risk of electrical shock.

Requirements

Must Have

  1. advanced understanding of industrial controls systems, PLCs, wiring standards, and electrical requirements

  2. technical degree or certification or higher

  3. ability to troubleshoot, test, repair, and service technical equipment

  4. ability to understand and interpret blueprints, specifications, or diagrams to inform the installation, development, and operation activities

  5. basic understanding of electrical engineering and/or technical work

Nice To Have

  1. forklift, rigging, osha safety, first aid / cpr, welding, hazmat, confined space entry, electrician, steam, plumbing, plc programming, quality assurance, or other certifications

  2. knowledge of brewing and/or packaging processes

  3. commercial brewing experience or experience in a relevant engineering role

  4. bachelor’s degree from a four-year college/university or higher

  5. BS in engineering or related technical degree or equivalent experience

  6. relevant engineering experience or significant education related to industrial controls systems

  7. PLC fault finding experience

  8. experience drafting electrical schematics
