Description:

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is one of the largest school districts in the United States, serving over 330,000 students in 600 schools and employing nearly 36,000 people, most of them teachers. CPS has set ambitious goals to ensure that every student, in every school and every neighborhood, has access to a world-class learning experience that prepares each for success in college, career, and civic life. In order to fulfill this mission, we make three commitments to our students, their families, and all Chicagoans: academic progress, financial stability, and integrity. Six core values are embedded within these commitments – student-centered, whole child, equity, academic excellence, community partnership, and continuous learning.

Located within the Department of Student Assessment and MTSS in the Office of Teaching and Learning, Tutor Corps is an initiative focused on high-dosage, targeted tutoring in Math for grades 6-12 and Reading for grades K-5 to address unfinished learning caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is part of the district’s multi-year commitment under the Moving Forward Together initiative which is supported by federal American Recovery Plan (ARP) Elementary & Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funds.

Job Summary:

CPS Tutor Corps Tutors will be staffed at various schools across the district in order to provide targeted academic and social/emotional support to over 10,000 students in communities most impacted by the pandemic, accelerating their success as they return to in-person learning through a holistic, equity-based approach. Through their efforts in the classroom, Tutors will support CPS’ goal of ensuring that all our students are proficient readers by the end of second grade.
