Chicago Public Schools is Hiring a SY23-24 Tutor Corps Math Site Lead (Part-Time/Temporary Role) Near Chicago, IL

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is one of the largest school districts in the United States, serving over 330,000 students in 600 schools and employing nearly 36,000 people, most of them teachers. CPS has set ambitious goals to ensure that every student, in every school and every neighborhood, has access to a world-class learning experience that prepares each for success in college, career, and civic life. In order to fulfill this mission, we make three commitments to our students, their families, and all Chicagoans: academic progress, financial stability, and integrity. Six core values are embedded within these commitments - student-centered, whole child, equity, academic excellence, community partnership, and continuous learning.
Located within the Department of Student Assessment and MTSSin the Office of Teaching and Learning, the district's Tutor Corps is an initiative focused on high-dosage, targeted tutoring in Math for grades 6-12 and Reading for grades K-5 to address unfinished learning caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is part of the district's multi-year commitment under the Moving Forward Together initiative which is supported by federal American Recovery Plan (ARP) Elementary & Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funds through June 2024.
The part-time/temporary Tutor Corps Math Site Lead will support the implementation of the district's Tutor Corps by providing guidance to part-time temporary tutors and supporting the effectiveness of the tutor services provided at each CPS school. This part-time/temporary position will be compensated for time worked on an hourly basis. The work schedule for this role will consist of an estimated 20-30 hours per week for an anticipated period of 12 months beginning in May of 2023 and ending in June of 2024. Due to the part-time/temporary nature of this work, this is not a benefit-eligible position. This role will report to the Program Manager, Tutor Corps.
The Part-Time/Temporary Tutor Corps Math Site Lead will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
  • Lead and coach tutors to effectively provide individualized instruction in a group setting using established curriculum
  • Motivate tutors by developing them professionally and personally
  • Manage students' learning progress and engagement throughout instructional sessions
  • Build and maintain relationships with families, students, and school leaders
  • Monitor and communicate student and school performance metrics in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with different partners including tutor vendors, research partners, and district-level team members
  • Become proficient with digital educational materials and processes
  • Meet regularly with math teachers to optimize the alignment of curriculum with math class instruction and scopes and sequences, and to seek feedback for future improvements
  • Support a caseload of 10-20 schools located in different parts of the city
  • In cases where the school POC is absent, the Math Site Lead assists with the creation of a student roster and tutoring schedule
  • Evaluate whether schools are following the Tutor Corps prescribed model (ex: tutoring occurs 3x per week, for 30 minutes per session, using provided vendor curriculum, etc.) and report these findings back to the Tutor Corps Math Coordinator and Program Manager, helping schools with corrective actions as needed
  • Perform additional duties and ad hoc assignments as assigned
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Part-Time/Temporary Tutor Corps Math Site Lead must possess the following qualifications:
