Job Summary
The OP Coder II has the responsibility to ensure codes are applied correctly during the medical billing process, which includes abstracting the information from documentation, assigning the appropriate codes, and creating a claim to be paid by insurance carriers. The main task of a coder is to review clinical statements and assign standard codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines. The OP Coder II is responsible for charging, professional component coding, and coding for all inpatient and outpatient services. The OP Coder II assists with abstracting various elements from the inpatient or outpatient medical record to ensure accurate and timely statistics and billing. The OP Coder II reviews and assist insurance follow up staff with insurance coding denials and provide correct coding information to assist in appeals. The OP Coder II monitor denials and errors and utilize this information in a timely manner to communicate necessary coding and documentation modifications for claims payment.
Job Requirements
Education
Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience
Preferred: 1-2 years related experience
Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Able to work independently and collaboratively in teams.
Self starter.
Proficient in using computers and computer systems
Understands charge data entry and balancing process
Licensure/Certification/Registration
Required: CPC or CCS or RHIT
