OVERVIEW:

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Youth Empowerment Supervisor is responsible for creating a safe, healthy and structured environment for youth seeking shelter. The Youth
Empowerment Supervisor also ensures support services are delivered in a manner that values healthy communication and encourages youth to learn and grow. This position provides support services to ensure that the daily needs of youth are met as well as providing the necessary services to stabilize, assess, and make referrals to needed resources. The Youth Empowerment Supervisor provides direct supervision of Youth Empowerment Specialists and volunteers and plays a key role in our multidisciplinary approach to providing services. The Youth Empowerment Supervisor reports to the Shelter Coordinator and/or the ROP Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Covenant House Georgia reserves the right to unilaterally modify, remove, or add to any of the following: Uphold Covenant House Georgia standards of conduct, policies and procedures at all times
  • Provide oversight and employ Milieu management techniques to heighten safety, promote structure and help residents learn healthier ways of thinking, interacting,
  • and behaving independently or in a group settings.
  • Role model effective milieu management by being present on the shelter floor for at least 75% of scheduled shifts
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled or mandatory meetings, trainings and supervision sessions as requested
  • Ensure rover logs are completed thoroughly and accurately and oversee the monitoring of the physical condition of the facility by conducting internal and
  • external rovers to ensure a clean, safe and hazard free environment
  • Serve as liaison to external entities; report all maintenance concerns to Facilities Manager
  • Develop and maintain work schedule ensuring proper coverage of every shift and
  • maintaining ratios
  • Train, develop and supervise program staff
  • Complete performance appraisals, recommendations for corrective action and create development plans
  • Ensure that evening and weekend YES staff assist residents in preparing for the day; ensure appropriate dress; assist with the completion of all household tasks
  • and in maintaining a clean and healthy living area
  • Ensure that your username/password for the Client Track remains active
  • Maintain ethical and professional boundaries with all residents and staff
  • Report all maintenance concerns to the Facility Manager and Coordinator immediately
  • Participate and conduct safety related drills
  • Follow all department procedures for resident schedule, flow of the day, shift transition, food preparation, crisis intervention, and on-call utilization
  • Provide transportation for emergency calls as needed
  • Perform all other tasks as requested by the Coordinator and CHGA administration
  • Seek and accept supervision and continuing education
  • Make necessary contact with the on-call staff according to on call notification procedures
  • Maintain and/or oversee scheduling of staff and ensuring all shifts are appropriately covered
  • Run monthly team meetings
  • Perform all other tasks as requested by the Shelter Coordinator and/or Leadership Team

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

  • Must be able to network and build collaborations with other social service agencies in Atlanta
  • Knowledge of external and social service systems
  • Knowledge of social and casework skills with adolescents and their families
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of homeless and at-risk youth
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of human service delivery systems and resources for our population

.Ability to:

  • establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, representatives of other agencies, and the public
  • effectively communicate verbally with both internal and external individuals and/or businesses
  • work flexible schedule when needed
  • monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and discuss observations with supervisor to maintain and enhance program functioning
  • respond appropriately to emergencies and crises at the facility and in the lives of the youth served, consistent with agency values and policies
  • respond immediately to emergencies and resolve issues with clients and/or staff
  • multi-task
  • work sitting, standing, and/or walking a minimum of 8 hours per day/shift
  • lift and move items typically weighing 5-35 pounds
  • drive agency vehicles to transport items and/or persons (valid Georgia
  • Driver’s License with acceptable driving record as required by insurance
  • company required)
  • All other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY DUTIES:

This position supervises Youth Empowerment Specialists. This position is responsible for scheduling staff, approving staff’s time, and managing overtime.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in human services Field
recommended or equivalent work experience preferred; minimum of 2 years’ experience.
Working with at-risk youth required; minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a residential setting desired; knowledge of mental health and substance use is required.
CPR and First Aid certification desired
