MAINTENANCE WORKER - COURTHOUSE

MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT - COURTHOUSE

Wage Type: Salary Range

Rate: $41,912.00 TO $54,662.00

Status: Full Time

GENERAL DEFINITION: This is semi-skilled maintenance and repair work, at the full performance level, personally effecting repairs to machinery, equipment, and related facilities and/or assisting skilled trades' positions. A position in this class operates a truck, light tractor with mower attachment or similar vehicle, and/or makes routine repairs to facilities, furnishings, systems or machinery. Work may include work at higher or lower-skill levels as part of a developmental assignment or on an incidental basis. A position in this class is differentiated from positions in closely related classes in the breadth of work and the routine nature of the work performed. A position in this class may receive instructions and direction from a skilled trade's position but reports directly to a higher-level trades or technical supervisory position.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)

  • Works with higher-level trades personnel to service, repair and test equipment, machinery, and/or structural elements of facility; carries and positions tools and materials to job site and during work; assists in effecting repair; starts up and/or shuts down equipment and machinery such as laundry, boiler plant, and other such equipment; cleans equipment, brushing and dusting debris from burners, hatches, pipes and conduits; carries materials, supplies, tools and replacement parts to job site, positioning for testing, installation or other activity; keeps work and storage area in orderly condition; makes notes or records of activities, including materials used, repair or other activity undertaken, and particular circumstances of each job.

  • Drives dump truck, flatbed truck and/or similar vehicles to haul gravel, cement, brush or other materials; operates a light tractor with attachments; operates hand and bench power tools such as air compressors, jack hammers, and painting and spraying equipment; provides routine cleaning and preventive maintenance for such equipment and vehicles.

  • Spreads and rakes gravel or asphalt in the patching and resurfacing of driveways; prunes, sprays, feeds and fertilizes, stakes, and otherwise cares for trees and shrubs in park areas; rough finishes concrete and performs pointing tasks.

  • Performs other work as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge of methods and techniques, tools, materials, and safety precautions commonly employed in mechanical and structural maintenance and repair work.

  • Ability to operate a dump truck, flatbed truck, light tractor with attachments or similar motor vehicles.

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Ability to keep records of activities.

  • Ability to lift, carry and maneuver into position a variety of heavy and/or unwieldy tools and materials.

  • Ability to work in close proximity to nursing facility patients, families and visitors, if required by work assignment.

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Education equivalent to completion of the tenth school grade.

  • Six to twelve months experience in equipment or facility maintenance or repair work.

  • Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which has provided the knowledge, skills and abilities cited above.
