County of Contra Costa, California is Hiring a Personnel Technician Near Martinez, CA

The Position

Contra Costa County is currently accepting applications to fill three (3) Personnel Technician positions in the Employment and Human Services Department. However, this list may also be used to fill future vacancies countywide.

Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD) partners with the community to deliver quality services to ensure access to resources that support, protect, and empower individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency. Our personnel team supports EHSD employees who provide those crucial social services to our County’s residents. In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing human resources services to assigned bureaus/divisions by performing a variety of administrative, technical, and paraprofessional personnel work.

What you will typically be responsible for:
  • A variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the EHSD Personnel Unit, HR Analysts, Supervisors, and Managers
  • Processing various departmental HR transactions
  • Issuing, monitoring, and updating referred eligible lists to Hiring Managers
  • Working in various human resource systems to generate reports and spreadsheets
  • Acting as team lead for departmental HR operations
  • Working on special projects as needed

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Education: Possession of an Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in human resources administration, business or public administration, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field; or successful completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university which includes 12 semester or 18 quarter units in human resources administration, business or public administration, psychology, sociology, or a closely related field.
AND
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time or its equivalent experience providing varied technical and administrative support in a human resources department or benefit administration environment which would provide the opportunity to acquire the abilities and knowledge listed.

Selection Process

  • Application Filing: All applicants must apply online at www.cccounty.us/hr and submit the information as indicated on the job announcement and supplemental questionnaire by the final filing date.
  • Online Multiple-Choice Test: A multiple-choice test will be conducted online to measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. These may include but are not limited to: Legal & Regulatory Navigation, Using Technology, Adaptability, Attention to Detail, Displaying Ownership & Accountability, Customer Focus, and Teamwork. (Weighted 100%).
  • Hiring Interview
Tentative Dates:
The Online Multiple-Choice Exam is tentatively scheduled for the week of June 5, 2024.
The assessment may be administered remotely using a computer. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment.
The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.

CONVICTION HISTORY
After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you have received a conditional job offer. If a conflict exists, you will be asked to present any evidence of rehabilitation that may mitigate the conflict, except when federal or state regulations bar employment in specific circumstances. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with Contra Costa County. If you accept a conditional job offer, the Human Resources department will contact you to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.
DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
