Council On Foreign Relations is Hiring an Internship, Global Governance, Summer 2024 Near Washington, DC

Overview

CFR’s Blavatnik and Robina Franklin Williams internships give selected interns the opportunity to receive training in the area of foreign policy; as well as skills training in areas such as writing, research, and program planning.

The intern will work with the global governance team and will increase their understanding of international organization and current issues and debates on global governance. They will hone research, writing, and editing skills as well as develop skills in synthesizing large amounts of complex information into concise arguments. The intern will develop an understanding of a multistage publication production and launch process and develop large-scale event and planning skills.

CFR internships are paid, require a 14 - 18 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.

CFR’s summer internship program gives interns the opportunity to choose whether to work in our office in a hybrid capacity (half in the office, and half remote), or on an offsite fully remote basis. 

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):

  • Conducting research as requested by the associate director and/or fellow on a variety of topics related to international institutions and global governance
  • Assisting with Council of Councils social media outreach along with other support, as needed
  • Assisting with the Independent Task Force Report
  • Proofreading content for publication

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate student majoring in political science, international relations, global governance, public policy, history, environmental policy, human rights, or a related field
  • All applicants should have completed the equivalent of four semesters of college coursework (not including AP classes in high school) by the time they begin an internship
  • Prior internship experience, especially in nonprofit or think tank work, a plus
  • Demonstrated interest in international institutions and global governance
  • Excellent research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Social media experience and event planning experience a plus

Pay Rate

$17.00 per hour
