Summary
CCA's Preschool Teacher is responsible for providing a Christian environment with both academic instruction, spiritual guidance and social enrichment that allows children to develop to their full potential.
The following is a general description and the expectations for the Preschool Teacher at CCA:
Spiritual Lifestyle Requirements

  • Models a Christian lifestyle in personal conduct, attitude, speech, and actions toward others.
Essential Function: Academic Planning
  • Reflects the purpose of the Academy which is to honor Christ as an essential component of the curriculum.
  • Translates the curriculum into specific objectives for lessons suitable to the age level and developmental needs of the students.
  • Selects and use curricular materials and plan teaching-learning experiences that help each student achieve the stated objectives.
  • Creates and organize units that help students see wholeness and relevance in learning.
  • Develops and plan lessons that connect biblical principles to concepts about God's word.
  • Implements a variety of teaching strategies to match the learning styles of the students.
  • Chooses content that helps students see the variety and the integrity of God's creation.
  • Selects in advance the means of assessment to measure students' learning for a lesson or unit.
The Preschool Teacher supports the Director by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. They must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. Assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents, the Preschool Teacher observes and documents children's interest and progress, and relays that information back to parents and staff. The Preschool Teacher is responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children's interests and needs under the direction of the Director.
Duties
Essential Function: Instruction
  • Motivates students to accept God's gift of salvation and help them grow in their faith through their witness and Christian role modeling.
  • Integrates biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum and activities.
  • Uses class time well with activities that engage students' attention and have a clear purpose.
  • Gives clear directions and well-organized examples and explanations.
  • Listens carefully to students' ideas and apply them to the lesson.
  • Uses questions and explanations that promote clear thinking and interest in students.
  • Shows interest and wonder in all learning through gestures, body movement, and voice inflection.
  • Provides useful illustrations to connect what students are learning to what they have already learned.
  • Utilizes valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the Academy's philosophy.
  • Employs a variety of instructional aids, methods, and materials that will provide for creative teaching to reach the whole child: spiritual, mental, physical, social, and emotional.
  • Plans learning enrichment activities with use of field trips, guest speakers, and other media.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Essential Function: Student Support
  • Establishes and maintains a climate of love and care.
  • Defines responsible Christian behavior for students, including guidelines and consequences for good and bad behavior in the classroom.
  • Helps students learn self-discipline through appropriate encouragement, correction, chastening, and counseling. Maintain proper discipline in classroom within the framework of the Academy's philosophy.
  • Provides organized learning that helps students support and learn from each other.
  • Provides regular communication with parents about their child's progress and needs.
Essential Function: Professional Responsibilities and Development
  • Adheres to all state requirements for certification, training, eligibility, and reporting incidents of abuse and neglect.
  • Adheres to all CCA policies, procedures, and directives governing the operation of the Academy.
  • Maintains consistent attendance and punctuality.
  • Attends all provided and required trainings.
  • Practices confidentiality in all matters regarding staff and family information.
  • Assist in the implementation of curricula activities and encourage participation by children.
  • Actively engage in activities; manage cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions and progress reports.
  • Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
  • Help ensure smooth, daily transition from home to child care center.
  • Follow all center policies and state regulations.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
Requirements
Required Qualifications Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent certifications.
  • Proficient use of Standard English, both in verbal and written communication. Ability to speak clearly and with articulation.
  • Ability to meet and maintain the Commonwealth of Virginia's requirements in working with children in a school setting.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to do the following, with or without accommodation:
  • Sit, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl, walk, and the ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity with the use of hands, fingers to feel objects, tools, and controls.
  • Speak clearly and hear well enough to communicate effectively.
  • See with color, peripheral, near, and far vision.
  • Proficiency in speaking, writing, understanding Standard English.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of professional child care experience.
  • High energy.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • An understanding of child development.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.
