ABOUT OUR COMPANY:
Cornerstone Barricades, Inc. is a Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) service provider based in Gainesville, FL with offices in Tampa, FL. With over 20 years of experience working for and with the Florida Department of Transportation, our highly experienced staff specializes in road construction safety. Our Advanced Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification enables our firm to provide superior MOT services, including designing, installation, maintenance, and equipment rental.
We are looking for a strong Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Supervisor for our South Florida location with experience in Traffic Control / Maintenance of Traffic who places safety and excellence in work product as a priority.
Supervises and participates in the work of a crew performing job.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Safety - Determine and demonstrate proper work site protection techniques. Ensure crew has proper personal protection equipment. Maintain current knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws, and procedures and train crew members in proper safety methods.
Promote safety as a top priority, and continuously monitor work site to ensure safety procedures are followed. Maintain work sites to ensure the safety of work crew, landowners, and the traveling public. Apply proper configuration for detours, lane closures, work zones, etc. Take corrective action when unsafe conditions are identified.
Preventative Maintenance - Lead or perform equipment repair, replacement, and preventative maintenance checks and services. Complete or oversee pre-trip inspections for any vehicle or equipment operated.
Manual Labor - Participate as a leader or working member of the crew to complete projects and accomplish objectives. Perform manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed for project completion. Complete assigned work as instructed in established time frames.
Leadership – Receives general direction from assigned management staff, and exercises general supervision over assigned staff. Coordinates and monitors the work of outside contractors, and vendors, trains staff in work and safety procedures and the operation and use of equipment and supplies; implements procedures and standards
Equipment Operation - Demonstrate considerable skill and expertise as an operator in the proper and safe use of all equipment. Apply specialized knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance techniques, materials, and specifications to perform more complex tasks. Ensure equipment is operated safely and appropriately. May demonstrate the hands-on use, operation, maintenance, and small repair of equipment. Perform emergency response activities.
Traffic Control - Provide traffic control in support of maintenance operations. Install and remove traffic signs and other warning devices in a timely and appropriate manner. Flag traffic to ensure a safe and effective work zone.
Ability to lead, direct, train, and provide technical direction and guidance to a variety of laborers. Ability to plan work schedules and identify and assign manpower, materials, and equipment needed to accomplish the job.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
  • Knowledge of safety policies, procedures, and programs related to roadway construction and maintenance.
  • Plans, organizes, and supervises all equipment and materials needed to set up, take down, maintain traffic control, and handle traffic-related situations.
  • Monitors operations and activities of the traffic maintenance work unit; recommends improvements and modifications and prepares various reports on operations and activities.
  • Prepares and inspects contract work for compliance with policies and procedures, plans, specifications, and standards of quality and safety.
  • Interprets and advises staff on applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Considerable skill in the operation of light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and equipment used for highway maintenance and the operation and maintenance of hand-held and power tools.
  • Ability to complete reports and records.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor and use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory procedures.
  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications.
  • Ability to interpret and apply work zone safety and traffic control manuals.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employees must be able to stand for extended periods and to stoop, bend and crouch.
  • Vision sufficient to read diagrams, manual reports, rules, regulations, laws, and plans.
  • Hearing is sufficient to hear conversations in person and over telephones and radios.
  • Manual dexterity to operate tools used in the course of work and typical office equipment including computer keyboards.
  • Ability to lift and carry, frequently, at least 50 pounds and, at times, as much as 90 pounds, as may be assigned.
  • Physical dexterity involves stretching, proper placement of legs, and use of arms and hands in repetitive motions.
  • Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.
  • Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Have a high school diploma or GED and be able to read, write, and complete work reports.
  • Hold a current valid FDOT MOT/ TTC Advanced Certification and State of Florida Advanced Training for Worksite Traffic Supervisor certification.
  • Have at least 4 to 5 years of experience as an MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) Foreman/ Crew Leader in highway construction planning, organizing and supervising all equipment and materials needed to set up, take down, maintain traffic control, and handle traffic-related situations is required, two years of which were at the lead level or an equivalent combination of closely related training and experience.
  • Provide and maintain a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving history.
  • Have a negative drug test and continue to submit to a random drug tests as condition to maintain employment.
  • Have an acceptable criminal background check.
  • A team player and positive attitude.
